Hmmm, I guess I don't share as much sadness or fear in "our little beloved indies!™" dying. I mean, let's be honest here folks - if their games were good, they wouldn't be going bankrupt.
Look at the big companies like EA or 2K. Sure, we bitch about them all the time but at the end of the day, they bring us some real high quality that sells for millions. They may not be to the taste of TTLGers, but numbers don't lie - they make good games. Or at least, better games than the indies.
Honestly, as harsh as it may sound, I'd rather see the small devs fail and teach a lesson, than stay in the game promoting mediocrity. If you keep rewarding shitty designs, you will keep getting shitty designs. If we actually want to keep getting good games, we need to let the economical "survival of the fittest" take its toll every now and then.
I can't even put into words how ignorant and offensive I find Yakoob's entire post. I could pick apart every sentence as being complete rubbish, but what good what it do? Why they would even have an account on this particular board with an attitude like that is hard to figure out. Very bizarre.

I have to say, I agree with some of what Yakoob says. While EA and 2K have committed a lot of major blunders, they to tend to publish well crafted games. They're largely unoriginal, mainstreamy (sometimes to the point of becoming casual games, almost), uninspired games, but they're well crafted. Yes, there are exceptions, and the companies have a tendency of getting lazy (see for instance Need for Speed: Most Wanted and the later incarnations), but much of the virulent hatred for these companies is hyperbolic and ignores that EA and 2K do publish largely soulless but definitely well-crafted, enjoyable games.
That doesn't make the broad, sweeping remarks concerning indie gaming any less stupid or trollish. Honestly, does anyone with more than one brain cell believe that sales=quality/no sales=crap is an adequate representation of things?

To me EA represents everything that is wrong with mainstream gaming today. Their business model relies heavily on buying talented developers, with fresh IP-s who are then promptly "restructured" to churn out franchises out of said IP-s. Once a particular cow has been milked dry another IP is bought and the exact same clusterfuck continues. EA is a defiler not a creator. Also their supposedly superior QA is a myth. Just take a look at some of their more ambitious titles.

While I'm probably the only person here who doesn't really give a fuck about indie games, I still facepalmed.
With both hands.
TTLG really took a dive in past two weeks

Where's dethtoll when you need him? Seriously what dumb fucking shit was that you just spouted, Yakoob? It's popular, therefore it must be good, eh? Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen was one of the highest grossing films of the year, fuck yeah, that was a work of cinematic genius. No talent is on par with that of Michael Bay's. Comparably Mariah Carey is the highest selling female musical artist of all time. Both Blade Runner and John Carpenter's The Thing bombed hard at the box office, they clearly sucked in that case.
Licensed property based shovelware typically make a lot of money based on solely name recognition. Shiny's Enter the Matrix was roasted on an open fire by gamers and critics alike, but no, they're all wrong, the game was actually of high quality since it sold well.
Indie developers going under, definitely a positive thing, dude. Darwin's theory was clearly at work with full force when Troika went under, let's totally ignore that each of their titles was fucked over by publisher interference.
How about a more recent one, GRIN?
Quote:
In a letter from GRIN founders Bo and Ulf Andersson, the CEO and director,
respectively, write that “too many publishers have been delaying their payments” to the developer, ending the 12-year-old company officially. The Anderssons lament their “unreleased masterpiece that we weren't allowed to finish,” going on to thank their partners and the publishers who apparently did pay them.

Fucked over by publishers again. Their Bionic Commando games and GRAW titles were favourably received, they were no means a bad developer because they made a couple shovelware titles to pay the bills. They likely took on those licensed projects because of other said publishers withholding their payments.

Fuck Ascaron for they're Sacred 2 activation shit. "Oh you bought our game, thanks. Hey, you still need to activate it if you want to play otherwise it's still just a demo! Oh you activated it, great! What's that? It still doesn't work right? Well, sorry! Next in line please!"
Sons of fucking...

WHAT. THE. FUCK!?
I'm really speechless,
Yakoob! You really are one of the kind, aren't you? Mindless graphics worshipping idiotic whore who doesn't give a fuck for story?
Hahaha, high selling figures equals good product!? It only shows that how brainless so called casual gamers really are.
