Having been reading these forums for a little while, I have registered in order to share this idea with you.. potentially ambitious but I love where it could lead.
(hope it hasn't been discussed before in some distant thread)
What would you say to the idea of leading a guild of thieves that could engage in however many and varied activities as the player chooses, and be of whatever size and scale the player chooses, as part of your thief's place in what is sure to be an increasingly large world as the thief series progresses.
Consider the possiblities I see:
-Funding your own group's research/development and production of weapons and equipment through your thiefy activites
-Recruiting and training a team of thieves to assist you
I feel really enthusiastic about this idea. Consider leading your young apprentice(s) on a mission, demonstrating techiniques and developing their skills, before sending them on missions of their own.
The player could build a group of any size and of varying skill levels for different purposes. Perhaps one player would rather a team of 3 super thieves, will another would like 10 base thieves, and 1 super assistant.
The player could then unleash his group on the city(or wherever) in co-ordinated missions to allow for even greater accomplishments. For example, having three thieves break into police stations and release groups of prisoners simultaneously, creating chaos on the streets and allowing the player, in his role as master thief, to attempt some great feat that might otherwise be impossible.
Alternatively the player might choose to send his thieves out doing what they do best in order to amass great wealth for developing equipment the player can use to attempt the same task.
Perhaps the player could even bring one of his thieves on a mission to assist him in a combined operation, even only as a backup, distractionary tactics, really the possibilities are quite endless.
It is a very ambitous idea for sure, and would see a significant change take place within the thief series, but the game cannot continue forever without a real development, and we also cannot have endless sequels without Garret getting on in years. He could become a real 'master thief' and master of thieves.
I hope this idea might provoke some interesting discussion.
Regardless I look forward to contributing to the forums from now on~
so hello to you all!! :)
also, I've typed this in a hurry so please excuse any typos.

I really like this idea, but I don't think Garrett would lead this. (And face it - Thief without Garrett is a horrible thought.) If anyone would make it they have my blessing and I would certainly play it. I don't mind if they base the game on Thief, (the City, the factions, etc.) but please, let the game not be in the official Thief series. It just...doesn't belong there. (And you're right, endless making of sequels with Garrett would become boring, so I hope - and I can't believe I say this - they stop making Thief games after number 4.)

I think I'm in the same boat as PotatoGuy. It's a great idea, but more of a Thief spin off than the next installment. I'd really enjoy a Morrowind/Oblivion styled game set in The City, it would be fun to be able to take control of your favorite Thief faction and drive them to success. The Thief universe is so vivid and interesting that I could easily see Eidos outsourcing such a concept if Thief 4 manages to sell well. Great ideas, keep up the good work! :thumb:

Where have I heard this before? Oh that's right ...

Here you are a gangster on a quest for money, power and respect. As a gangster, you must build up your violent crime organization by recruiting members for your crew and sending them to perform attacks on your enemies.
To become bigger you will need to learn how to keep your gangsters happy and teach them to whack out your competition. You can perform many crimes, hit jobs, dealing in the black-market, protection and trying to stay out of the hospital or worst the jail. This can be done by purchasing certain items and avoiding certain events.

This is an example of Thief inspiring something that is fine by itself, but is not Thief, nor in keeping with who Garrett is, etc. Take the inspiration and run with it, but leave Garrett out as the leader. He's more likely to be a villain that undermines the leadership of the Guild and steal their wealth, crippling them for a time, creating or escalating fierce competition and in-fighting.:ebil:

Sounds too rpg for me. It would work well with the Elder Scrolls series but not Thief.

Sounds like it would be better suited for a stealth version of Left 4 Dead. Working with players isn't something AI does very well, especially in stealth.

I'd be quite happy for them to produce a Thief Universe based RPG, but it shouldn't be called a Thief game if that makes sense.
