hmm, too much of a gamble for me to install that dreadful piece of software again. I remember it back from the battlefield2 days (got spec forces addon via eadl) and it was horrible. you could not customize anything, especially download/install paths.

Interesting details in (
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=229700) this interview, apparently they've addressed the rubbish inventory from the ME1 and the game comes on two discs.
Quote:
. The second one really just continues that and of course we can make focused improvements on combat and inventory. All those small changes add up to hopefully one of the best BioWare games ever.
Obviously the disc swap issue will only be an issue during installation of the PC version. A disc will only be needed in the drive for DRM purposes, no data streaming. This is common sense when dealing with modern games on the PC platform and goes without saying.
Quote:
Q: What's the biggest difference between the first and second game that means the sequel has to ship on two discs?
Cho: Everything is... better (laughs). Therefore we actually squeezed a lot of content in. The first game was actually huge and I was surprised we managed to fit it on one disc. This time everything's bigger, better, more detailed, the worlds are more expansive, the story's richer, the fidelity... everything takes up more space.
We made an early decision to put it on two discs. It's a small inconvenience to disc swap but the value you get from it... man, if you loved Mass Effect on one disc just think about the experience you can get on two discs!
Also more confirmation that the fucking elevators are gone (90% of them remained static no matter how fast your HDD was, since they were hard-coded.). I bet the primary reason they blow up the Normandy and give you a new and improved version was so that the devs could get rid of the lift.
Quote:
We knew we had a limited amount of resources, a set time limit and we wanted to hit all the areas that we had criticisms for and make sure that we answered them. People said, 'Mass Effect is a great game but it had long load elevators'. We wanted to address every single thing so... I'm not going to say shut up our critics, but it'd leave no room to deny that this is an amazing game.
Also they talk about benefits of working on only one console platform, why they aren't on PS3, etc. See the link.
Apparently they aren't looking to rip off consumers with their DLC, give them over-priced, half-arsed content, etc. Also full blown expansions similar to the GTA4 Episodes are being considered.
Quote:
Q: Is the GTA IV, full expansion pack approach something you'd consider?
Cho: I think so. It depends on the scale. The price range I think is really important so that we can give players good value for their money, I think that's really important. I think we see publishers and developers on one side unfairly price things.
It's about keeping players engaged in that world and not necessarily to always make a good profit. You've got to make some profit off that, but you don't have to do it off the backs of the consumers because I think gamers are not dumb and they'll support us with their wallets or not.
Honestly after the whole item chest malarkey of the Dragon's Age: Warden's Keep, I'm a bit sceptical.

Oh whoopdeefuckingdo. You could substantially improve of ME1's inventory and still have a practically unusable inventory. SNES games beat ME1.
And item chest? Stop hauling around useless crap.

Currently replaying ME1 PC so that I have a save to transfer (played it on 360 the first time). Oh Lordy Saren, is a piece of piss after you've spammed tech abilities. Dampening, Sabotage and finally Overload.
Looking forward to trying the new combat system in the sequel.

I'm also replaying ME1 for an ultimate save-file, though I'm quite a bit behind you. I remember one of the previous times I encountered Saren, I kept hitting the overload bug (which completely prevented your weapon from cooling down after overheating), so I had to defeat him solely by using mine and my squad mates' powers.
mothra on 20/1/2010 at 10:32
so that was a bug I always ran into......thx for clearing that up, I had to swap weapons in the inventory to get rid of perma-overheat.

They've released a tutorial video of the character import system. Contains major ME1 spoilers.
To make your lives easier, here's some class overview videos and Q&As detailing the improvements/overhauls/additions/etc that they've made to each of ME1's six classes.

I'd rather like to know which history the game assumes for shepard if you start a new carreer.

IIRC- I've actually seen a list but paid it little attention
saved the council
saved Anomen Carth Sky Kaiden
Earth born background
boffed Liara
councilor Token rather than councilor Snark
no idea on the rachni or whatever else though presumably typical light side on all options

In addition
How you treat the fan
Whether you let them do research on the guy's wife's body
whether Wrex lives or dies
Gave Tali the data disc
They say there's a bunch of other ones, but those probably don't change anything major. My guess is that the "small decisions" will just affect a few lines of dialog or side missions.
Can't quite decide which class I want to play, since the biotics/tech look a lot more fun this time. I've got two(techncially three) saves, one on a paragon soldier (beat it twice with him to get 60). I use that save as my "canon" save: I consider any decision a permanent record and won't go back and change it. The other is a Renegade adept that I'm mostly done with. I'm thinking that I'm going to import my soldier at 59 and switch class to Vanguard, or keep the same classes for both him and the adept.
