He is being WAY fucking sarcastic. Anyone (-1 apparently) who reads this forum knows he has no consoles, and plays only PC games anyway. Way to assume a generic name like Mothra would automatically be him. Hint, there is a gunsmoke on Xbox Live, and it sure as hell ain't me...

Just started playing ME2 today and I was very impressed.
One question though. Can you only get ME1 companions through an ME1 character?

no, i started with vanilla shepard to see what bioware thought an me1 playthrough would look like and you can still pick up the same squad mates.
What ppl you meet besides that from ME1 depends on what missions/decisions you did in ME1 regarding smaller characters like the crime lord woman or if you helped out Zhu's Hope settlers or killed them and so on or oc if you killed Wrex or notthe changes in gameplay, additional missions is sometimes pretty substantial and hint at many, many open options for ME3 to bring in or kill off old characters (
eg: rachni) so I recommend:

and pick your favorite character. many conversations and subtle hints will go past you if you didn't play ME1 before, it's defenitely a much richer experience with your own or any other imported character. The vanilla shepard of ME2 has a less interactions with old ME1 characters as possible as to not confuse new players too much.

I've played ME1(twice in fact) but I lost the character files:( so I ended up playing as vanilla ME2 Shepard which has been pretty ok so far(no complaints).
I downloaded a Male Paragon Save so next run I might try the imported option to see the difference.
I gotta say though I am rather disappointed with the lack of Liara in ME2, she was my favorite and in ME2 you can't even have a proper romance with an Asari:tsktsk:

I couldn't convince Liara to join me on my mission, but I had a nice encounter with her, even helped her with her own investigation.

well, you can flirt with samara but for cross-species relationships you have Thane, Thali, Garrus....enough options imo

It's worse than that- she's there, but so completely out of character, I wish she wasn't.
What have they done to the sweet, clueless girl who could better relate to Prothean ruins than with living beings?
I know they aimed for a dark sequel, but you got to be consistent with the personalities you've created. A plausible, dark Liara would be more along the lines of an embittered, chain-smoking maid, who got the sack for lack of social skills... and even that would be stretching it, as it's only been two years. (basically two months in Asari years..)
(I know that it's consistent with their written stuff, outside the game, but- a. most of us didn't read the comics. b. it's poor writing anyway)

i didn't find her out of place. ok, 2 years in asari years is laughable, I never read the background books (which nobody should have to when playing the games) but the only thing the scene evoked was strong interest about what exactly happened to her and her involvement with the Shadowbroker. After probing her more I thought she gave a good explanation and since she WAS my loveinterest in the first game thinking I died in the crash could have been a traumatizing experience. Well, I have the strong impression that Liara's story as well as Zu's Hope outcome as well as the Rachni will be the MAIN threads in ME3. Cerberus will be just a footnote or - let's hope not, since it's been hinted upon - the main villain that makes even the reapers dwarf in comparison.
