I am considering the first game for PC. If it is even half as good as the rave reviews make it out to be, I'll be all over it like stink on shit. Hopefully so, cause then I get a second game to look ofrward to after finishing it!
it aint even a quarter as good as they make it out to be.
I rather buy an xbox this fall and replay TheWitcher...AGAIN.

Well I like the Witcher despite what anyone says, I even got the LE of it. I wouldn't mind playing it again sometime.

Oh my, how fluent were the shootfights? I had 7600GT at the time I got Bioshock and I had to turn off HD shaders and shadowmaps and still the more dense firefights were going below 15. I presume you had dualcore? That would have helped you a lot.
Dualcore and an overclocked 7600. 20-30fps @full detail 1024x for 95% of the time. I played The Witcher (except Old Vizima, which made it run crying for mummy) and Gothic 3 at 1440x on the same system. Even with all graphics options off ME plays barely reaches 20 fps if I'm standing still and staring at a wall.
Newest drivers seem to have at least fixed the crashing issues.

I can stand FPS drop if it doesn't happen too often, but stuttering is more irritating. I don't think 512MB on 256bits should have such problems processing scene with High Quality textures and the rest of forgiving settings I have (more for aesthetic reasons - I don't really like shadows in ME and I always turn off film grain in all games by default).
Also it looks like ME has slight HDR lighting mixed into many (if not all) areas and it can't be turned off. Not that I would want to, HDR makes big difference in looks of the scene and the insignificant framerate gain is usually not worth it.

In this dark second chapter, Saren's evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril...
“We're going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO, BioWare and General Manager and Vice President, EA. “Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action.”
It sounds like they're addressing the whole "exploring nothing but empty planets" issue, good. You can tell that they were short for time when developing the side-quests.

Is Witcher definately coming to the 360? I thought I had read this a while ago, but wasn't sure I hadn't imagined it...

Improved planets exploration is good, but they should also improve enemy AI, tactical options for the squad and most importantly, radically improve the inventory and trading screens. Also, upgrading infinite versions of firearms, armors and mods was quite tedious.

Does ME get any better the further you go along? I've done the first part and went first to a planet called Feros? Think that's what it's called. I've done a bunch of stuff there, and on my way back to save some colonists. Anyway, I was told to use this special grenade on them to put them to sleep or something, and when I enter this tunnel, there's a couple of dozen of them and I keep dying trying to save the fuckers. Screw being mr nice guy. I'm gong to toast them all when I get back in the game.
I don't know, so far anyway, the game doesn't seem to merit the incredibly high scores it got. Now that I've got a new comp with a shader 3.0 card I'm finally able to play all these games I've missed out on the last couple of years. I picked up Rainbow 6 Vegas for 10 bucks at Target and frankly having more fun with that than ME.

Mass Effect is pretty much KotOR, minus the SW license, a real time combat system and less black and white morality (more shades of grey, you're never evil, just an arsehole).
