Since when was this played from a first person perspective?
EDIT: or Rune for that matter.
Fuck, you're right. Didn't think it through properly. Sorry.

No mention of Mount & Blade yet? That was the very first thing that came to my mind when I read the thread title, and I haven't even played the game yet. By all accounts, it's pretty good too.
Yeah, I gave Mount and Blade a try fairly early on in their, uh, unique release plan, and just couldn't get into it. I'm willing to believe there's a solid game in there somewhere, but for the most part I found the M&B awkward and a little ugly.
Bottom line: ain't no shame going home with the girl but you might want to keep your substitute freak on speed dial.

Skaruts: I'm confused by your use of the term "FPS", given that you then explicitly say you don't want modern technology. That pretty much limits you to games with bows. Or maybe a first-person catapult operator :) I assume you simply mean first-person games, not first-person shooters?
Anyhow, Ultima Underworld I + II are a couple of obvious ones, and no one has mentioned the more recent Zeno Clash yet.
Does Condemned have guns in it?

Cant believe no`ones said Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Wizardry, Elder Scrolls or Might and Magic yet. Shame shame shame. Cant go much better in this category than those games.
And yep Condemned has guns in it.

First Person Swashbuckler.

Quake was originally meant to be a dark fantasy RPG, and the arguments Romero had with Tim Willits and American McGee, who wanted a more straight-up Doomlike game, led eventually to Romero getting fired. He took Tom Hall with him and they founded Ion Storm. The axe is a remnant of the old roots of the game.
Personally I love the weird mashup of futuristic marine with creepy, gothic labyrinths with strong D&D influences. Not even Doom managed to quite do what Quake did, though a bit of that was because of technical restraints. The closest it's come is Doom 64.

Rune was 3rd person, just like Heretic 2. They are both nice games tho. But I tend to get annoyed by the 3rd person view.

Yes you got my point. I meant FP games. :D

That I dunno, but I think it does. But the game pleases me a lot. I like horror with a sense of vulnerability. Unless the game is a "repetitive-fighting-for-survival-all-the-way-through", from what I've seen it must be great. But this is a diferent matter since it has guns (I think). :D
Thx for the answers guys. Keep em coming. :D

There's always Hexen 2.

Condemned does have guns, but they're relatively rare and you can't put more ammo in them. Condemned 2 has more guns and you can put more ammo in them, but you can still only carry one.
