I'm considering getting a matching set of glyph tattoos. One will be The Lock; the other will be some sort of unlocking-type thing.
The problem is, I can't decide between Glyph 090 or Glyph 092 (from (
http://thief.nov.ru/glyphs.htm) http://thief.nov.ru/glyphs.htm). I'm leaning towards 090, but given that two possible interpretations are given, I'm not sure if it's the most appropriate for what I'm going for.
It's listed as being possibly either The Thief or Unlock. What is the most accepted/common interpretation of Glyph 090?
I am fully aware that this is a colossally geeky thing to do. No firm decision has been made yet in regards to getting these tattoos, but I'm not the kind of person to shy away from my geekiness; not all she-geeks are closeted. If I can't come up with a satisfactory interpretation for Glyph 090, I'll probably scrap the idea. I already have twelve tattoos, and a great deal of thought has gone into all of them. This set, should I go through with them, will be no different.

"I am the sort of damaged goods who gets video game-related tattoos".

Wow, that was...
profoundly uncalled for.
As for your question, I have no flippin' clue. Ask jtr7?

The "unlock" meaning is based on the overhauled TDS intro and thus seems a bit doubtful to me.

Actually, it was being screamed for. We have here not one but two bad tattoo cliches-- the video game tattoo cliche, and the "symbol that you don't know what it means" cliche.
I shouldn't complain though. This sort of self-branding performs a valuable public service.

That depends on where those tattoos are.
Seriously though: really bad idea. Imagine when someone asks you what they mean. You'd sound like the grey bloke on youtube.

Wow. I guess that means you're not into geeky tats huh, ZylonBane?
I'm not planning to get anything new inked until I know precisely what it means, which is why I decided to do research first. None of the other tattoos I have went unresearched when I designed them. I'd like to get the Lock/Keeper glyph, and I wanted something to balance it out. If I can't find an interpretation that works, I'll change my plans.
I've planned a lot of tattoos that I've never gotten done, for one reason or another. The next pair I've got planned are phrases in Old Babylonian. Before you get on your high horse about people getting stuff they don't understand, let me explain that I do understand Old Babylonian. I can read it, write it, and translate it. I'm not as good at it as my Babylonian Grammar prof, but I'm good enough to consider a directed study in it when he gets back from his sabbatical at the end of next year.
So did you share your scorn with doctormidnight when he got his tattoo done, or did you reserve all of this lovely uncalled-for snark for someone you don't know?

RSoul: I've already got visible ink that people ask about. Heck, people will ask about any ink. I've also never tried to hide the fact that I'm a colossal geek.
Like I said, this is still just an idea. I should probably go back and edit my original post to phrase that a bit better.

As long as you know it's geeky, you'll be under no illusions. There have been a few people who thought it would be cool.

I commonly have people ask what the glyph on the TDS t-shirt (74) I sometimes (often) wear means. My answer? "Nothing. It's just from a video game." And they always find that a perfectly satisfying answer. Of course if I ever run into a Thief fan (very rare in real life) they know exactly what it means and don't need to ask. The chance of finding someone who "It's a Keeper glyph from the game Thief" will not totally baffle are extremely slim.
I'm sure Zephriel is far more used to and experienced with dealing with that than me. My advice? Pick the one you think will look better and decide what it means. If you're getting a tattoo of it that means you've paying it far more mind and giving it far more value than the artist who sketched it out years ago on some tuesday afternoon.
