Hey Poroshin.... It is easy.... If you have winzip, (or TME for Thief1; for taking care of the sounds) you can just extract the files and listen to them all you want. WHy make a CD?? If you really want it, you could just compile a CD if you have a CD burner on your computer and a program of some sort, and make it be a audio cd. Then, when you pop the cd into your cd-rom drive, or into your cd player somewhere, it would read the CD as if it were a soundtrack CD. Not that hard... I did it. BUT, not with ambient sounds like the Horn Of Quintus music. (BTW: I love that music! I feel like a Burrick. :) )
I did it with all(or at least MOST) of the thief conversations.
-Also, about your earlier question.... Yes, thief loops the ambient sounds. It is called a schema file, and has the extention of .sch I found this out recently, and created my own. Basically, a schema file is a group of sounds (or a single sound) that is looped when played in thief. The actual files are .wavs and are stored inside the .sch file which can be viewed in notepad. You will see what I mean when you check it out. If ya want, I could do the job, but it would take awhile, and I don't know if I want to devote my time to creating a ambient sound CD.

To me the most beautiful music is the sound of a snoring guard, followed closely by a sleeping burrick.

Definitely the "Horn of Quintus" signature music, since it's one of the few sounds I remember - and Trail of Blood has a brilliant pagan, Boards Of Canada feel to it that I simply adore.
More mixes are needed! (The Sword, ehehehe.)

I kinda like that one beat in Thief Gold in The Thieves Guild.(even tho it repeats itself over and over and over....) I would have to say that I really like THOQ music.(horn of quintus) The music in Shipping and recieving is kind-of good too....... (just thinking of different ones in thief/ones that I like.....)

Heck, I forgot one of the ones that stands out the most.
The music that kicks in when you find the Keeper's Library (hidden outpost) in The Haunted Cathedral. The music is just two clips that repeat, and are only about 15 seconds apiece, but it really lends to a feeling of ancient and mysterious exploration. I mean, 50 years isn't all that ancient, but the music makes it seem that way.
Anyways, it's too bad they (TTLG) never cut loose with a soundtrack. Especially across the three games (two + gold) that are out there. Surprisingly enough, there's some excellent stuff in there that would turn a resonable profit, as well as free marketing.

Since TMA was my introduction to Thief, I remember being taken aback by the ambient playing in the Main Hall of the Rumford mansion in "Running Interference." I wanted to know where the music was coming from in-game. That was my first experience with Eric Brosius' work. "Shipping... and Receiving" got my attention again. I had to stop what I was doing a few times just to listen. The alarming sounds in the "Framed" music got me twice until I learned to expect it. By the time I finished that mission I had a good idea of the atmosphere of the game and was no longer shocked (positively) by it, but I could let the music stir my emotions as they were meant to. "Trail of Blood" is a classic.
Eric Brosius helped Alex Brandon get into the ballpark with Thief 3's sound:
Quote:
...Alex has done games in the past where sound/music functioned somewhat differently than in Thief. And in those games, his work seemed very appropriate.
I've talked with Alex several times about Thief and he's a talented guy who is very dedicated and is TOTALLY immersing himself in the Thief world. So I'm confident that he'll zoom right in on the Thief aesthetic, add his own twist, and that we'll end up with a Thief3 with great audio that expands what was started in Thief1 & 2.

Eric Brosius has been/was brought back (December 2003?) to help out, I believe, during this final stretch of development. I take it as a sign that the final sound will require Eric's blessing (but that may be unrealistic).
There's this too:

I'm actually glad that I've read the concerns and hopes of the Thief fans. I'll be happy to clear a few things up that people may be wondering...
1) Thief 3's audio is, in the end, the responsibility of me and the Thief 3 uppers like Randy and Lulu. However, I'm not the only one doing sound for the game. Our new sound designer, Todd Simmons, is also contributing material, in addition to as yet undisclosed others.
2) Thief 3 will be my biggest challenge yet for game audio and we here at Ion Austin fully intend to make Mr. Brosius and the nitpicky fans as well not only proud but pleasantly surprised.
3) I've been talking to Eric on occasion about the audio and had the chance to sit down with him last year before production began. He's an awesome guy who definitely doesn't give himself very much credit, but thanks to him and Randy and Lulu (in addition to hours at Thief 1, my favorite level still being "The Horn") as well as the other ex-LGers who're working here I have a very solid philosophy of the Thief universe, and trust me, I'm not going to soil it with my previous style of writing, which is most certainly pretty camp by comparison (different games, after all). But again, remember it isn't just me doing work on T3, but many.
-Alex
Not too much out there.

There's one piece I especially love. In Constantine's mansion, just after you pass the minature village, you swim down a pipe and up another pipe leading to the sink in the "littel big room" Once you climb out of the sink and step away from the water you can enjoy it. Sometimes when I feel zoned out and somber I'll just listen to that piece. It's great.

I like the T2 Trail of Blood (m10sad) music, The Horn of Quintus is another. Lord Bafford's Basement I like. Also I like the music by Something Blackheart - the 'musicalwax' one in T2 Shipping and Receiving. They are so groovy!

I've been away from this forum, and indeed from Thief for a long time. I continued playing through Thief Gold last night and returned to the forum. Any news about somebody mixing all the snippets into a soundtrack album for Thief 1/2?
Bronze Griffin on 19/4/2004 at 18:04
That sounds like a good idea. Unfortantly I have no news.
