So what do you lads and lasses think of attachment parenting? Time magazine came out with this cover showing 26 year old Jamie Lynne Grumet and her almost 4 year old son.

I'd like to see if by doing that, is there any real benefit from it? Long term studies show, blah, blah. To each her own on that one. Some women can't go that long and breast feed. Its an individual choice. That's not the norm, does it make it bad, hard to say. I couldn't do it. I think he's too old for that.
I'm sure that kid will love seeing that picture of himself when he gets older, on the front cover of Time magazine sucking on his mom's boob. Some things should remain private, why bother doing that anyway? Ohh, to stir the pot, and debate.
Or this. (

My first reaction to that pic was (

There was a good article somewhere that had a pretty compelling argument IMO. French parenting is apparently well known for being rather detached, and the premise was pretty much: spend a week in France and a week in the US and look around. In the US kids can't stop screaming and crying and being welling geysers of entitlement tantrums, and in France kids are quiet and just happily play off to the side.
As for long term affect, not sure... I personally think when people become adults they go through the whole process of (trying) to take control over their lives, and how you were raised as a kid is kind of overblown as an influence, except maybe times when you're in an emotional state, then feelings from your childhood experience may come back, but even then I don't know if there's a clear relationship to how you deal with it and your general wellbeing.
Edit: But happy mother's day anyway, haha :) Familial attachment is deeper than a formal list of do's and don'ts anyway. Just being decent and loving is what's important.

Thanks for the post BA, hearing that story left a lump in my throat (yeah I'm a bit of a softee I guess).
Happy mothers day to all the mothers here.

My mom's birthday is always the week of Mother's Day. She loves it obviously but for my dad and me we think "jeez, now we have to cater to her every whim for TWO days instead of one!" But seriously, my mom's done so much for me. Very blessed to have outstanding parents.

Does she milk it for all its worth? ;) Ahhh, that's ok, its a thankless job being a mom sometimes, she can have her two days.

I thought the exact same thing when I read the article. I think what pissed off more moms than the picture was the caption; 'Are you mom enough?'
As far as I'm concerned, when they start getting teeth, it's time for babyfood.
:p

haha, that's a good point. Someone should ask her how many times, he's chomped down on her.
