Not sure if anyone else is participating in this (increasingly Global) event that originated in Australia as a charitable way to raise awareness about Men's health issues (namely prostate and testicular cancer and depression/mental health)... (
http://au.movember.com/about) Info about Movember here.
I am setting out to achieve the IMPOSSIBLE... or maybe only mildly IMPROBABLE... which is grow something resembling a beard... the only reason I am not going for a Mo is because I am certain it will look so terrible that I might get slapped with a restraining order regarding my proximity to schools, which would present problems with dropping the kids off.
You can donate to the charitable cause and support my scientific experiment by (

Cheers.

Pictures are a must for this thread.
Some friends and I were talking about doing this today - it's really hard to look good with a mustache these days. Especially where work is concerned. I'm already sporting a beard, but I have to decide if I'm going to take the Mo plunge. Either way, it's a great attention-getter for a great cause.

I always hear a lot of DERP about how its cheating to start the month with facial hair. Well I am not much of a sasquatch myself so I don't care. I've given myself a 2 week headstart.

Point 1. Clean shaven me.

Point 2. I'm going to "cheat" a little and see how things evolve with all of the growth. Having never done more than a week or so's solid growth ("solid" being a very loose term here and more akin to "spongy"), I have no idea what I will look like after 2 weeks, so it could be "ok" (in a slightly grimace sense) or it could be "no" (with emphatic shaking of the head and covered eyes).

I've decided to take the plunge too. At 46 years old, and a (post-puberty) lifelong advocate of clean-shaven-ness(!) I'm gonna try for a goatee.
As well as the main reason, my wife is infatuated with (
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/chefs/paul_hollywood) Paul Hollywood and wishes for me to attempt to look something like him. Sheesh.

I just attempted a beard. The only area where it grows in fully is in a thin strip that goes from above my ears, and follows along my jawline to my chin. Everywhere else, it pops up in patches.
So when I grow a beard, I only have two choices as to the style: scurvy victim...or douchebag.

Ugh I never attempt this, mostly due to my sad inability to grow any form of proper facial hair. Pathetically ugly stubble are best I can hope for :(
(and I just got a haircut too, which means I'm gonna be looking 16 for the next month to boot :p)

No, no... You're getting it all wrong. Movember isn't a beauty contest, it's not about who gets the most awesome mustache. It's about the spirit, to show that you really care about men's health. I think the sloppy mo's are part of the deal. If you really want a good looking mustache, give it time and do it properly on your own time, if your facial hair growing allows it, but now in Movember you start from scratch, and just do what you can. And if you decide to do it, you don't have any choices, just do it. Do the prostatic cancer patients have a choice?
And remember to act like a real gentleman.

Hahahaha yeah definitely no beauty contest here... but you're right regarding the sloppy nature of the mo. I will have to embrace it.
