Might want to re-read that press release, it doesn't state that anywhere.

T1's story would work the best. Lots of varied locations and creatures. Plus don't zombies figure into about any kind of film or game nowadays?

I dunno. Unless the director is one of the big guys on dark, I wish Kubrick was still alive. Maybe Tim Burton? Otherwise it's going to be awful like Batman & Robin (1997) vs Batman (1989). There is much potential though. The universe was actually based in part on movies; "Brazil" and "City of Lost Children". I can imagine a good grimey steam punk thief movie. Maybe the GoT director would be perfect.
Oh man it's too bad Philip Seymour Hoffman died. Can you imagine him as Karras? Speaking of GoT, Tom Wlaschiha would be a awesome Garrett.

I'm not saying anything that nobody's ever said before; man I wish I could buy the IP. I would immediately go to Kickstarter and start a campaign to make a movie ttlg pretty much will direct. Also thief5 ;]

Doesn't seem like anything is coming off this rumor. Had a look at the websites of the 2 production houses said to be working on it, Prime Unverse and Vertigo Films, but neither has any mention Thief.

My guess is that they were just testing the waters last summer when they made the announcement, to see if anyone was excited about the idea. Noone was.

Not necessarily. The press release in the OP is from only 4 months ago, and describes the film as being "in development." If anything, the project could just still be in a very early concept phase. I'm guessing there's some more work to be done before an official announcement is made.

Yet still, not expecting much or holding my breath. It does fire up the imagination though.
