I'm wanting to change the music in Deus Ex and I want to know if there's a way to make it recognize MP3 files or if anyone knows a program that can convert MP3 or WAV files to UMX.

Why don't you just mute the game music and play your own music in the background?

Maybe because that's exceedingly lame?

The obvious reason would be to cope with the changes of mood, like when you go into a fight or something rather than having a constant track after track playing in the background.
Also diferent albums for diferent levels.

That's technically impossible without manually re-composing the MP3 song. The music format DX uses is S3M, which origins from Future Crew's (
http://www.united-trackers.org/resources/software/screamtracker.htm) ScreamTracker. MP3s are recorded (and compressed) soundfiles. S3Ms contain several samples that are played according to patterns.
I don't know if DX can play MP3s.

I was browsing through the Unreal Tournament forums because I also wanted my own music in Unreal. The original UT uses the same UMX format as Deus Ex and from what I've read, there is no converter. You're only option is to load up the sound file FROM UnrealED then save it from there. You'll have to go visit the UT forums for more details.
