Thanks Theef. I get thief-blind after an hour's play.

I have been reading these forums for a year or two and have never felt compelled to participate until now. Yes youve guessed it Im stuck!
I havent got very far in this mission but I cant for the life of me figure out how to kill Baneson. I am opposite him with my back pretty much to the closed front door, and I have tried hitting him with Gas arrows, Fire arrows and broadheads-sometimes a combination of all three, and Ive even tossed a mine at him-and then attacked him with the sword. But this sucker just wont die! By the time Ive hit him with the Gas/Fire/broadhead arrows and got him to walk over the mine that I laid in his path the guards outside are alerted and I have to fight all of them! needless to say I die very quickly
I have hit the switch in the other corridor, the one that is supposed to open Banesons door but it looks like he is standing in front of it anyway and I dont see the advantage.
Can anyone help me with this? I occasionally post to alt.thief the dark project and was told that I might get some help here. I would hate to give up on this mission as I was really enjoying it up until this particular problem arose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From memory....... I actually went through the mansion first and came across him from inside the mansion having dealt with all of the other guards first. I then ran past him into the swimming pool. A quick couple of fire arrows to the body from the edge of the pool and saved. I then used a real chicken method of luring him towards me, a quick couple of slashes with the sword and then back in the pool and save (I suppose I should add he didn't seem to like water). I then repeated this process until he finally gave up the ghost... and he takes some killing. Not a very satisfactory method but it worked. I think I got into the mansion by jumping into the moat and swimming around to another access but you know how it is..... they all blur into one after a while....
Isn't there a walkthrough for this one somewhere.....mind you it doesn't help with your problem....

Welcome to the forum, Steelman! I send a private message to Sharga about your problem, so hopefully you'll get an answer from him or if not, then someone else. I'm a little foggy about this one, as I said. :)

Moc2 is a lot of fun :)
The way I remember killing him is this:
First I knocked out the guards... then I just made noise from the shadows by throwing stuff at him I think. Then when he came looking I quickly disposed of him. I'm pretty sure he's immune to everything but your sword. Good luck!
Oh and there is something special nearby... ask Sharga about it! :)
Sharga on 7/7/2002 at 06:06
Steelman- Thanks for playing Moc2, I hope you enjoy it and all it's crazyness. You will find the walkthrough at my site below should you need it.
There is no secret to kill Baneson except this: dispatch the guards first. That means get rid of all the guards around him via blackjack before you launch your attack on Baneson. I suggest using all your fire arrows on him and then attacking with overhead blows and backing up. Or you can do what Phillys did, which is an excellent tactic. If you have flashbombs that should also work nicely.
I can't remember if I added a no-ko property to him, but if the gas arrow doesn't work then I must have. Make sure to bring him out to the open and "dance" about him to avoid attacks.
Tell me if you're still having trouble.
Did you start by blazing through the front gates instead of taking the more sneaky way into the mansion? If so I suggest taking a little visit in the moat and worrying about Baneson later, but that's just me.

Thanks for your help,Phyllis, Nightwalker and Sharga. I have actually managed to kill Baneson. I followed Phylliss advice and got him to chase me to the pool and picked him off from the other side with 2 fire arrows and then 4 broadheads. The next thing you know, he dies! Result!
I have downloaded the walkthrough and will be refering to it from time to time, hopefully not too much. This is such a good mission!
Once again thanks for your help. It really is good to know that there is a community out there that can help with this kind of thing. Cheers!:)
BTW Sharga I entered the mansion via the moat, just like any self respecting thief. This FM is great. Thanks!

I'm glad you are enjoying it, you have many surprises in store for you :) (And hopefully they don't involve crashing to darkloader)
One thing you should know. There is a bug in the water room so that you can't enter it. When you find yourself stuck in a big tube of water that kills you ever time you hit the surface then take another path. You won't miss anything except some archetecture and some loot. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Wow! I guess I lucked out in the killing of Baneson. I knocked out all the guards, then snuck across that little courtyard and lured him outside (where there are lots of shadows). I shot a moss arrow onto the bridge and when he gave up looking for me, I ran after him with my blackjack and clobbered him until he was dead. I threw him in the water to drown him, too, just in case. I know, I know — overkill (literally).
Does anyone know if there's a way to get into that "Enter at your own risk" door on the upper floor of the mansion? I can't pick the lock and can't find a key.
Also, I can't find the
light switch in the basement
that's mentioned in the parchment that you find next to the switch on the pedestal when you
scale the wall to that weird area with the big spider
.
I went down that long ladder and can't figure out how to open the panel, either. Also the red panel
in the red corridor past the monkey/rat men where spotty fire spurts from sconces on the walls
.
Now I'm stuck trying to find a way out after getting the eye. ALl the ways seem to be blocked.
Are there any rope arrows to find so those upper areas of the trees can be explored?

Well, now I'm playing "Mansion of Chaos", another great mission. I don't know why I'm always missing important things. So I have some questions...
1.) I have found a dead man (Thomas Richmond, I believe) and a note that he has stored a key in his house which he has locked. I believe, he means the house outside besides the market hall. This door is locked and I cannot open it. Where is the key? (I did not find it in Baneson's room which I could enter after pressing a switch.)
2.) There is a "portal" (or what else it is). When I face it then left and right are doors. The left door leads to a short gangway with a door on the other side which is locked. Where is the key?
3.) When I face the above-mentioned portal and go through the right door then I reach a throne of stone with a lever on it. When I pull the lever then arrows are shooting at me and a stone is falling down. Nothing else seems to happen. Is this just a trap or does this lever anything of interest?
4.) When I go through the portal and through the right door I reach a lava zone. I did not find anything of interest there, except some gold, fire arrows and a book saying that all will be burnt down. Is there more of interest in this area?
5.) When I go through the portal and through the left door I reach some water streaming upwards. (That reminds me to "Mystery Man".) When I jump into the water then I can swim only to a zone where I can get air, but when I do so, I'm dead in the same second. Why?
6.) I did not find anything of interest in the market hall and in the church. (There is a hidden switch. When I press it, an Apparation occurs. I can kill him but was this all here?)
7.) Where is the key for the double-gate in the garden outside of the well-guarded mansion?
8.) I see two areas that I cannot reach:
a) Near the starting field there is a tunnel that leads to a gate that is no option. Behind I see a guard and some things looking of interest. How can I get there?
b) In the mansion there is a small stairway of stone. When I go up then I see that there is a room that I cannot reach. I tried to jump to it from one of these openings in the hallway where a bowman was guarding, but this fails. How can I get to this room?
9.) When I started the game I believe I have seen that one of the guards has a key. (Unfortunately he killed me so that I had to restart a couple of times.) Now I have killed or blackjacked all reachable guards, but I don't find that one with the key. Where is he?
10.) There are still two bowmen with gas arrows standing above the entrance of the main building. But I did not find a way to go to them. Where is the missing ladder/rope/staircase?
11.) I don't have a rope arrow, but it seems that I could need one in some areas. Is there one to find?
12.) Now I'm in the zone deep under the mansion. I was going through the garden and through the tunnel. There it's very easy to fall to death. (I can go down to the area where a Crayman is, and I hear sounds of another one but I cannot find a way to him. Also I cannot find a way out of here down - this seems to be a one-way-trip, isn't it?) From upwards I jumped to a place where I see an Aphid. However it seems to be tricky to jump to this platform, I didn't get the job actually. Is there anything of interest in this zone?
Well, very much questions. Oh, how do you manage to find the answers to all puzzles and to solve the missions? (It seems, I'm not the best pathfinder...)
