First of all let me get this straight, a sequel to a Thief game without Square Enix publishing it obviously won't have the Thief moniker in it. Oh and if you came here just to say that "OH IT'S IMPOSSIBRU" without reading what i have to say exactly, save yourself the trouble.
The name of the game would be Dark Camelot. Yeah, that's already something in common with the original Thief right? The story would be Garrett, that wouldn't be called Garrett anymore and instead something else because since everyone he knew was killed, he invents another name for himself for people to call him. The game would be a direct sequel to Deadly Shadows, with Garrett leaving The City to go somewhere safe to teach his new apprentice. A few years later, the events of Excalibur happens, Merlin gives birth to Arthur and blah blah blah, fast forward King Arthur gets sick and calls upon "Garrett" (still needs another name, like Master Keeper) and tells him to rob the Holy Grail. The Master Keeper accepts the job, with no reward except saving The City (which is Camelot) which is his duty as Master Keeper. Instead, what happens is that the Master Keeper steals a fake, poisoned Holy Grail made by Morgana to make Arthur become a madman dictator. When that happens, the Hammerites, the Mechanists (some people of the order still remained even though Karras died), the Pagans and the Keepers are nearly completely wiped out as a result. Instead these factions made alternate names for themselves to hide from the Camelot Watch (well that's a good enough excuse to avoid copyright infringement huh?) After that, Garrett and his apprentice gets medled with the conflict and goes into a series of thieving missions against Dictator Arthur. The end of the game would be Garrett stealing the true Holy Grail which heals Arthur from the poison and ends the tyranny, then the rest of the tale would go exactly like the original tales of King Arthur. He could also end up stealing other important things from fairy tales as well.
Now it's time for the gameplay.
Gameplay would be exactly like Thief 2 The Metal Age, except you can see your body in first person, including feet and hands. No context leaning systems like Thief 4, no jumping restrictions, nothing like that. Optionally, there could be climbing in the game like Thief 3 and some scenes in Thief 4. The game could have free roam in it, but missions would take place in exclusive areas, just like in Thief 3 and Thief 4. The game would have 4 difficulty settings, and they're all associated with thieves : Petty, Typical, Expert and Master. The lower the difficulty, the less areas you can access (making the game much more linear), the less loot you can get, the less guards, the less locked doors, the less objectives, the less dialogues, the more health, and the less secrets in total. Difficulty can be changed between missions and can be used tactically by the smart player to get good loot on "easy" Master missions, and hard missions to be played on lower settings. On Petty, you can kill everyone. On Typical, you cannot kill unarmed people, but you can blackjack them. On Expert, no civilians or guards can be killed or knocked out (unless if it's part of the mission or if someone else does it for you, applies to all difficulties), but civilians can no longer be blackjacked. On Master absolutely no entity can be knocked out or killed except if it's done by another entity other than you. The combat system would work exactly like in Chivalry Medieval Warfare, since my idea of Dark Camelot is for the player to have a sword instead of a knife. You would get stabs, overhead swings and swings, but instead of having "modifier" buttons, the system would work a bit like in the original two Thief games : aim at the left of the target for a left slash, and to the right of the target for a right slash. Pressing the "block" button with the fire button executes a stab, which can be charged to deal more damage. Normally holding the attack button for a while executes a overhead swing. With a realistic sword fighting system, fighting multiple guards should be a problem, which encourages stealth. But it should still be a good fighting system just like the first Assassin's Creed for some players to have fun with, like me sometimes. While charging, the sword slowly goes outside of the screen and Garrett begins making a grunting noise, indicating the charge of the slash. You can faint attacks by pressing the block button in the middle of an attack to make the enemy block and making themselves vulnerable. Optionally there may be kicking and using your arm to slap and bash the enemy's head, but that's purely optional.
Cutscenes should be animations like the original Thief trilogy. Please have that back if possible.
Voice actors would be... who else, take a wild guess.
Type of music would be medieval themes mixed with some electronic sounds. But not abusing electronic because i don't wanna see another Battlefield 4 theme, honestly that theme sucks. But that's purely subjective from my part so forgive any insults to sensitive fanboys. Free butt ointment here : (

Platforms would be primarily PC, but could get ports for other consoles, including (but not exclusively) on a priority order : PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U (i know plenty of people who would LOVE to get such a game on the Wii U, trust me).
Now if you have anything to complain or to praise, now's the time to write it. Hope you enjoyed it. I know such a thing won't be done so soon either, probably it won't, but i just wanted to clear this out of my mind. Thank you for reading!

Not a fan of the forced ghosting. Maybe make it a modifier as in Thief 2014?

Sure, modify the difficulty settings in a system like in ArmA; each difficulty can be customized and everytime you play them it always remembers what you put the last time. Sure, good idea!

I find the lack of logic in this idea disturbing.

Merlin is a magician, so maybe he can give birth using magic.
I think Garrett switching names and locations would make sense. In ThiefDS he was known by sight to the entire City Watch. Not sure how that is meant to have happened.
But then, by the end of DS he was now part of a reformed Keeper faction wasn't he? Perhaps he is no longer a thief and so the game wouldn't be called that even if they could. How about Keeper: The Dark Camelot Project :)
Of course, none of this is ever going to happen though. I think oldThief in the classic style with the original characters is going to remain as part of gaming history.

He does get reformed into the new Keeper faction, but when all is well he leaves The City until Arthur summons him in an urgent mission to recover the Holy Grail (remember, he does get seriously ill after Guinnevere "betrays" him) since it is his only cure, in fact, The City's only cure. He does rob the Holy Grail, only to find out that it was poisoned with hallucinating poison that drives him into a mad dictator, and the cure for that poison lies around The City, so Garrett does become a master thief again stealing artifacts and things to make that cure possible.

You're not giving much of an opinion when it's not describing *what* logic is lacking. Do you mean Garrett not being named Garrett for example or what?
