So I sit, in the here and now, in front of a brand new Xbox 360 Elite, a converted man. Wireless controllers that actually feel comfortable in my hands, and an HDMI cable make all the difference in the world. Playing Arkham Asylum, with Assassin's Creed, Fallout 3, the Silent Hill series, and Brutal Legend in queue. Got Netflix working in about 5 minutes on the thing, and downloaded the new Indy Lego demo for my boys. We are a happy family, and the PS2 is already sitting on Craigslist.
So I guess these weren't my last words as a casual console customer. :erg: :)

Or now you're a serious console customer? :)

Hooray, now I feel vindicated for not lambasting you back when this topic was originally posted. I figured you'd come around given the time and finances.

Still casual, as Batman is turning out to be a fairly by the numbers, linear fighting game. :(

Don't forget the naked children mod.
(Fallout has enough game for someone on a console, plus all the DLC adds more than any mod I've seen yet. I'm waiting for a decent campaign to go along with the 40k skins)

All I know is pick up and play is retarded. It used to be that you press start and it says "a new challenger has appeared!!" Now I gotta jog into an account, or it's a 10 step system before I can be "player 2."
And the games are mostly crap. There needs to be a new name for these console games that aren't exactly casual nor anymore near hardcore - middlecore.
Or casualcore, either one.

yes, but with the batman in it.
I will say that I enjoyed the stealth portions of the game. Particularly in challenge mode, I had a good time coming up with creative ways to take down enemies. I also recommend experimenting with those as soon as you open them up, because some of the challenge rooms teach you new ways that your gear can be used. For example, you can use the bat grapple to pull enemies off ledges, and you will knock over enemies if you slide into them using the bat-zipline(whatever its called).
The stealth gets a lot more challenging and better once (not really a spoiler, but it generates an "oh crap" moment when you first encounter it)
The gargoyles start to be rigged with explosives. That said, overall its been a pretty good year for consoles. Demon's Souls demonstrated that consoles can be every bit as challenging and rewarding as old-school PC, while L4D2 and Borderlands allowed me to have a great time playing some split-screen co-op with family. One trend I don't like is towards "edgy" protagonists: The leads of both Uncharte 2 and Creed 2 came off as jerks and considerably less likeable than in the previous games in the series. Eddie Riggs was the only main character I encountered who was genuinly likeable.

Hmmm....last night I spent 2+ hours trying to get an CoH expansion to run on my computer. Apparently, Relic fucked up the multi-player patch and there's no way around the download prompt, even for the single player campaign. Once the patch is downloaded and installed, it asks you to do it over and over in an endless loop, so you can never get to the load screen. Either that or it takes you to a Relic login screen, but provides no means by which to create an account. Scouring Relic's website provides no clue as to how one might do this either - at least not that I easily found. I finally got it to work by using high-tech skills I developed over many years of playing PC games.
I unplugged my modem.
Yes friends, it's the year 2010, but there I was, down on my knees amid the dustballs and powerstrips, behind my desk, groping for the modem cable, so I could install a game. The good news is, this only cost my $20.
Today, I sat on my couch, hit a single button, was immediately connected to Xbox Live and playing Bioshock within 2 minutes, and it looked fantastic. Oh, and I bought it with Oblivion for $10 on Half.com.
In short, I'm converted. I will probably upgrade my PC for T4 and possibly the next CoH or Stalker, but I'm starting to wonder why I would even bother, especially since I'm looking at a Mac to meet video and music editing needs.
I feel a great shifting of the tides, a wind of change that neither determination nor loyalty can hold back. I may be turning into a consoletard.
