nothing less than component
or S-Video is acceptable for last gen sd consoles.
Fixed.

no zylon. specifically regarding the 2000-2005 sd gen, any video cable standard that doesn't support 480p/576p progressive scan is a waste of time.

Fett? FETTTT!!!!
Okay, attending to your points on a serious note:
1) PS2 games generally run at 480i/480p, which is essentially 640x480. I hope you're not sitting just a couple of feet away from the TV. Component cables help sharpen things up if your TV has the inputs.
Also, needless to say, having your TV in an area where the screen reflects the light of stars going nova isn't the best situation to be playing games in to start with.
2) It depends on which games you bought, and what you're looking for in them. Console games aren't known for exceedingly detailed and intricate gameplay systems, but no one said they had to be. There's a ton of really fun games out there for the PS2 - which ones did you buy? Perhaps we could help point out some of the better ones that you may like.
3) I'll have to agree with the save systems, I can't understand why consoles don't implement quicksaves when they're technically capable of it now. Same with the menu screens, but I just turn the console off after saving instead.
As for the buttons, can you imagine a PS2/Xbox controller with more buttons? It's not like people aren't already intimated by the number of knobs and bobs and other fiddly bits you have to press to start a game to begin with.
As for the tutorial thing, most games have tutorials. Failing which the manual usually spells things out. Really, fett, I have to repeat this: which games did you buy? And what are you looking for in them?

1) Even though the uh, lemme see,
approximately nine year old PS2's most common resolution tends to be 480i or 480p, you're either playing it on an old CRT TV, in which case it looks like a blurry shit, or an HD LCD TV, in which case doesn't have enough detail to fill the available number of hardware scanlines anyway, you're using the wrong cable, and it looks like a blurry shit.
To reproduce on your PC, play Thief at 640x480 on a 1920×1080 or 1280x720 widescreen LCD monitor. Nice.
If you want the crystal-clear display you're used to on a PC, you're always going to be disappointed, the nearest you'll get is a PS3 or an XBox360 with proper leads.
2) Apparently, there number of title for PS2 will hit 1,900 this (
http://www.edge-online.com/news/sony-250-ps2-greatest-hits) year. They don't all suck, no matter how much we jump up and down.
3) Calm down and buy some lovely curtains, maybe?

EDIT:
Fuck, I didn't see that other thread. I've been had. D:
You're bitching about a PS2? Seriously?
So likes I should tell people who are new to PC gaming to go get an Amiga and game on that?

Oh screw progressive scan. If you're gonna game last-gen, do it with the interlace that god intended.

Wow, the original post seems genuine, but - bitching about the PS2 in 2009? Come on. Has to be a joke. Especially with the big bold red lettering mocking the DRM thread. It's a joke, alright. Yep. Has to be.
Right?

With today's games often using excessive bloom and motion blur, this doesn't really hold much water unless we go back in time to 2004/5.
