I was a betatester in this mission.
It is quite awesome isn't it? :)
Those tree beasts are also called Ents (similar creatures were in the Lord of The Rings saga).
Glad you liked it. Sharga made excellent job creating this FM.

I liked this mission but I ended up getting stuck at some point...I should probably due justice to it and give it another shot. Thanks for reminding me :)
Sadly I no longer find tree beasts that scary. Except when they surprise you. Which they do...
kewlazme on 26/10/2002 at 21:51
tree beasts aren't scary.... but Tree Beasts coming at 60 mph straight at you can freak you out!

Oh these babies will scare you!!! Turns out that the water is full of MiracleGrow and these guys are very territorial. If you can't tell a real beast from an ordinary tree you will learn very quickly!!!
And if you survive the tree beasts you will still have plenty of chances to die.

Hmmm... what tree beasts?? I mean, the 'freaky looking LotR trees that turn into treebeasts' never flinched to me, maybe you have some miracle grow and they want it?
Hmmm... dunno

You know, if you can manage to avoid the tree beast's killer arm swings long enough to get a few good whacks with your sword at them, they will become afraid of you and run away every time they see you after that, just like the burricks.
I'm not into undead missions much, but Swamped is really "geez, what's next, I gotta look!". The bummer for me is that the screens are so awesome, but my vid card doesn't generate Thief type fog. A lot of the ambience is lost. Bummer.

If you keep walking around them, they can't turn too quickly, and you can just hit them in the back with the sword. What is funny is if you run with your sword, you go at about the same pace as them, and their branches fill up the screen because they're so close behind.

They look all big and mean (and, admittedly, they are mean), but I found to my surprise that they're just as easy (or hard, depending how good you are with a sword) to kill as ordinary guards. Just keep walking backwards so they don't have time to hit you and chop them into firewood. First time I did it I was stunned, because they'd killed me in one blow so many times before that.
What I found good about Swamped though is the fact that I got lost in the first area... and when I turned off the fog to find my way I saw it was all just one area...

Haha, glad you guys liked it. Although there are some undead I don't really consider it an undead mission because there are very few and you don't even have to go through that area on easy .
It's all about the treebeasts! I also found that fire arrows work pretty well on a treebeast, but when you've got a whole hoard of them charging you its a tad unnerving. The running in circles trick seems to work well, but every once in a while they manage to get a good smack on me, fast buggers they are. Really I was trying to bring back that old feeling of the first time I met treebeasts in Trail of Blood. The only way I could tell if it was a real beast or not was by running straight up and giving a slash and then running away like a rabbit on speed. Ahh, those were the days. I did manage to kill all the beasts in that mission, but I only had a few shield left. At least Victoria didn't seem too mad about it.;)
But seriously if you don't like fighting them they aren't too hard to sneak around.
Oli G- you should deffinitely go back and finish it! It's really not that big of a mission so it shouldn't take long no matter what difficulty you're on.
