Oh, forgot to mention. The best way to tell if they are real or not is by
Looking to see if they have feet. Normal trees just have trunks at the bottom.
I used to try to remember branch patterns, but that never worked because I'd forget.
BTW I love the sig diana50322!

... and the eyes ... real beasts have red eyes.
I must be soft hearted because I just don't like to kill the poor tree beasts. That's way I always have to run from them. But I have no mercy for moth spitting craymen.
Thank you Shagra, it's true.

Nightwalker:
Oh, there is an exit up there?
And here I was thinking I was really clever when I
threw one of the rocks over the wall so it landed on the pedestal. At first I though I had missed but the pedestal was actually sinking, albeit slowly. YES, IT IS MOVING! After about two minutes the portcullis opened and I was out.
Now I have to go back to see where that exit leads...

Feh, Treebeasts are just remeshed Rumblers.

jiansonz- are you saying you managed to throw a rock over the gate and hit the final pedestal? I didn't think it was possible, but good work!
To get out of there:
Simply walk into the area in the center where the four gates are guarding the scroll. Now look above where the scroll was and you should see a lever, just hit that and it opens the exit gates for you.
Is anyone familiar with a "Rumbler"? I have no idea what that is. Is it from another game?

I have the same problem, my video card doesn't support fogging :( I'm sure the atmosphere would have been 10x better otherwhise, but it was still an extremely cool mission.
As for Rumblers, maybe SS2? Never played it but that's my only guess right now.
I will try to be more specific. What I did was this: I climbed the pillar room (the room with the ruby "hologram") and picked up a boulder from up there, went back down and placed the boulder on a lone pedestal. This moved the wall so the puzzle area became accessible.
(OK, so this is what everyone is doing, I just want you to know where I am...)
I used Garrett´s weight on the next pedestal to raise the first portcullis (the one that leads to the "square") and ran in there before it closed. This is the pedestal that will later allow me to get out of there again. After I had finished the rest of the puzzle, getting loot and scroll, I picked up the boulder I had used to raise the "cage" in the center and went back to the first portcullis. It is closed, but the pedestal that raises it is on the other side of the wall, less than two meters away. I threw the boulder, not over the portcullis, but over the wall to the right of it. I was standing on the pedestal in the corner (to get some height, otherwise it would have been a completely blind throw). I only needed one attempt to get the boulder to land on the pedestal. I think this throw is easy to make, since the next wall stops the boulder.
I later went back to check the other solution. Hehe, I don´t need no stinkin´ switch. :ebil: Isn´t this a wonderful aspect of Thief, that you can often solve things in several ways (and sometimes in ways not intended by the designer). :cheeky:
Now if I can just find the missing 195 loot...
