I think that's right where I am! I know I found a hidden area with the author's name on the wall (or some name or other...it was pretty cool) and thought this meant something important...found out it was an E.Egg from the threads. I'll just call this one done then but I should redo it to get the whole story in one sitting. The beginning is worth everything anyway...especially with fog.
Thanks NW! :)

Last I remember, there is no bug that prevents you from finishing the mission.
I believe the exit is in the far northern corner of the map. Have you found the keeper's hut? In that area there is a small hole in the stone wall (not the hole leading to the abandoned village) and if you crouch down and walk all the way to the room with a wall of vines preventing you to go further the mission should end (considering that you completed all the other goals.)
Glad you enjoyed it! :thumb:

I'll have to load up the mission and try that again to see if I can get it to end. It's always been a fun mission to play! Glad to see you're still around, Sharga! :)
Edit: I went and checked it out. You get the check mark for the objective to find the way out of the swamp but the mission doesn't end, at least for me, because the objective to find the Emerald and the Ruby doesn't tick off, even though they're both in my inventory.

Hmm, well I either have a bad memory (which is entierly possible) or I never heard about this. Anyhow, if you beat it you beat it, sorry about the inconveniece of not having the mssion end. You can always go play the success movie right after, just for that feeling of authentic satisfaction. ;)

Maybe that objective works for other people?? No complaints from me! Something like this is just a minor bug and the mission has a great atmosphere. I've always had fun playing it.

Ditto, NW- Swamped and Equilibrium are the 2 scariest maps in all FM's. I should mention that my friend just got into Thief when he bought Thief 3...I of course went on and on about the fan missions and loaded up "Swamped" to make my case. Needless to say he went bananas when I pissed off a fog-enshrouded treebeast. He went on a mad hunt for Thief Gold and Thief 2 that day but couldn't find them. Don't know if he got them online yet or not...
I'm sure he'll make the same mistake I did at first and start unzipping them all... :joke:

Wow, to compare my Swamped with Equilibrium is a great honor indeed! But I must say that they both pale in comparison to Deceptive Perceptions. Whenever I have a friend play a thief mission to convince them of Thief's greatness, I make them play that one. It is by far the highest ranking on the pants wetting scale of any mission, well until DP2 comes out. :sly:
Another exceptionally frightening moment is the baby's room in The Seventh Crystal. But I'm getting off topic here.

Just found this mission in my T2 FM folder... I had started playing it about a year ago (according to DarkLoader) but for some reason I never finished.
So I started anew, today, and I'm amazed. This is a fantastic mission!
While I normally prefer the city missions, this one just won me over with its atmosphere. I didn't really understand how the thieves got into the swamp, though. According to the diary, they jumped over a city wall and found themselves there. Does that mean this swamp is bordering on the City?
But forgetting that bit, the storyline was great to follow.
Too bad, the campaign won't be finished.

Entertaining from start to finish. The start already makes it worthwhile, when you slide down into the swamp and read a letter from a gang of thieves, who took a wrong turn in the city and ended up in the dangerous swamp. Brilliant! (off topic: It reminded me of one of these small tales from Stephen King (Crouch End).
Just like Masterdeib in the post before me, I'm confused of how the thieves enter the swamp in an instant while Garrett has to travel over rivers and mountains to get there.
Nevertheless, a first impression that sets the mood for the rest of the mission: disturbing and spooky.
The atmosphere is superb, thanks to the thick fog that makes visibility almost zero :D. The player loses all feeling of orientation, and the lack of a map makes things worse. But it didn't bothered me at all.
The place is huge with different paths to take. Indeed, very non-linear like the author wrote. You explore all kinds of environments, each with their own monsters to deal with. From burricks nested in Caves, to a secluded area of the bog full of treebeasts .
Most interesting of all are the Craymen. Rarely used in FMs, they make a perfect enemy in this setting. This aspect is really well done. The notebook of an observing Keeper tells of their rise to power. Loved the pet-spider in the vacant house btw.
In terms of graphics it's clear that the level was made in the early years of T2 level design, but it's large map and atmosphere compensate this. A nice example of a less-detailed mission with more then enough charm.
I had a great time using the vine arrows, locating the jewels of the swamp, reading the journals of the lost thieves, whacking (and running away from) ants, and exploring the ruins and treetops :D.
But uneblievable, no secrets found and a lot of loot missed! I'll return later this month to find out what I missed.
A question: what about the green-glowing rock in the abandoned city?
'Swamped' was originally planned as the first part of a campaign, but sadly the sequel(s) never materialised. I would love to see the Craymen story continue, learn more about the attacks on the city (by the Craymen?), and perhaps even meet Keeper Newton in person.
Sharga, thanks for a great mission :thumb::thumb: This single mission alone proved your talent as a FM author. Glad to see you reappeared on the forums lately.
The best Craymen mission and one of the most atmospheric adventures I've ever played. Really, we need more swamp missions like this. Recommended (especially if you have working fog)!

Aha, found both secrets and learned the secret of the craymen :D
I fancy that those alleged symbols and codes on the last page would've proved to be of some use in the next part, Blue Moon.
Also found a lot more loot but still 100 short. Is there a lootlist somewhere?
Again, great mission!
