My Thief 2 impressions. - by KoHaN69

I just beat it, about 20 hours in saves, meaning over 30 hours in gameplay.
That's at least 4x longer than any modern game.
Overall I like it, but not as much as Thief Gold nor *gasp* Thief 3.
I enjoyed the overuse of zombies more than the overuse of machines.
0. Recommend me the best of the best FMs (besides T2x and CoSaS)
I really love the streets (City of Thief 3, Life of the Party Thief 2, assassins Thief 1)
The last 3 missions were really, really annoying.
1. Soulforge took me over 6 hours, until I finally learned through various walkthroughs that vine arrows attach to metal grating - the game needs to really tell that to the player up-front (except the buy-out screen)
2. A few more questions about soulforge- Is there a way to get that scouting orb up on top of that ledge in the first part of the level?
3. The metal gate with the Radio in the North Apse, is there a way to open the gate using frogbeasts? I got it to partially go up, but never open completely.
What you do is lean forward, until you're through the bars and throw a frogbeast to the right.
4. Was it really necessary to make Masks and 'Casing the Joint' separate missions? I felt it was an excuse of lack of development time.
- has the community fixed this? combined both mission into one that fits the story better?
5. While Precious Cargo was beautiful and emotional, and good creative mission, Kidnap felt really poor in level-design and not too thought-through. (unlike the lost city in original thief)
6. Trace the Courier, although not a bad mission, seemed like an excuse to re-use the level from 'Ambush!'.
But my favourite 3 missions were probably: Ambush, Framed, Life of the Party (the part on the streets)
PS: I used ThiefEP1 for visual enhancement, are there any other texture/model/upgrade packs I missed?

What were you doing on the streets in Life of the Party?:sly:
Casing/Masks--Nothing new there. It was a mistake and it was botched by various development issues.:erg:
Vine arrows--how much more up-front can the store description be? The manual's also a good place to get info ahead of time. When you saw you had vines instead of ropes, didn't you wonder what was different other than the Pagan connection and appearance?:p

It's really sad, because if they were to be combined, it would of been a decent mission (love the library's secret bloodshed)

It really really pissed me off. I thought the vine arrows were an upgraded rope arrow because Garret's the shizzle with lil' Vicky - yaknowutimsayin?
Vine arrows are hard and sturdy, jumping on them doesn't launch me up across the map when I jump on them - I thought that was their advantage :erg:

Heh, that's a bug that plagues some of us. The rope arrows aren't supposed to do that by design. Happens to me frequently enough to be extremely annoying.
As for best of the best FMs, you could start with (

Everyone has their favorites, but that's pretty much a list of the top of the crop that frequently get suggested. It's nowhere near comprehensively complete however.
