I don't know if I would like it or not, but with modern settings Thief-like game probably could be made even more dramatic and dark than T1, it could use serious emotion-inducing scenes and visuals, something similar to SilentHill in that aspect. I somehow feel it's cosiderably more difficult to accomplish if it's middle age time.
But of course it woudn't work if it was done in Flesh Engine, it just doesn't allow to make a game with (photo)realistic look. I always wanted to combine dramatism and seriousness of SH with Thief gameplay.

What about a realistic simulator of a medieval thief. I mean, really medieval - no fancy steampunk and magick stuff, no flashbombs, mechanical eyes, alarms... Hardcore.

NOOOOOOO!!!! Gimme ma gas bomb back!
But really, I dont know if that would work, because if it was a realistic simulator, it would be :
EXTREME PICKPOCKETER!!!
Pickpocket enemies in a variety of places and difficulties!
Bore the [CONTENT EDITED] out of yourself when you try to pickpocket an alarmed enemy!

Of course it would work, despite that you can't imagine it.
And
Quote:
Pickpocket enemies in a variety of places and difficulties!
sounds vaguely similar to what is written on the back cover of all Thief boxes.

Or would it have been Thief: More Shadows or whatnot for PC and Console?
That can be assumed. They say it's the only way to get games made these days.
Thief redone in another steampunk world supposedly more modern, but not really more modern, actually. I fail to see the point. And with the TDS engine it obviously would have been another claustrophobic experience.

I'm just wondering if anyone know who has the rights to The Thief Series right now?? How much do you think it would take to buy the rights? Did Ion storm go out of business? If I one the lottery could I buy the rights to Thief and make a theif 4? How hard could it be?
Thanks,
Eric

Since you're still on the new member level but registered since august 2004 () I will forgive you your unknowledge, while you should've searched the forum. There are really damn a lot of threads about that topic. To answer your questions: Eidos owns the rights; They will cost pretty much, because Eidos is just as evil as microsoft^^ ; Yes Ion Storm is no more; You could perhaps, but I am asking myself why you wanted to, because you could develop your own game just without the name Garrett and so on it, but with similar gameplay (Take a look at darkmod for example, which is no real new game, but a very promisingly mod for doom 3) ; How hard it would be depends on what you want to do. If you want to make it feel the classic TDP way, it will probably very hard... :)
