I'm not entirely sure he was just referring to the storyline, but moreso the gameplay elements as a whole.
Up to the colors of the palette. Story wtf. It's a bit like Halo, casual gamers tresspassing into emo territory.

I know it isn't fair to compare these to Valve games, because Valve games are just patently better than pretty much anything else these days
Talk about irony.
ercles on 10/3/2009 at 09:12
How is it ironic? Surely if you don't think valve make good games it would just be wrong, but not ironic.

I am pretty sure than saying "We're safe" and then having your house explode is still ironic.
That, or rain on your wedding day.

"Alanis Morrisette irony" is ironic because it isn't.

Not a bad word about Left 4 Dead and Portal, but Half-Life 2 just wasn't that good a game. No idea why people think so highly of it, there are much better cinematic shooters. Like Resistance for example.

I think the thing I still respect Half Life 2 the most for was taking a big risk by completely changing the dynamics of the game in the final level(s). Rather than follow the tried and tested concept that most fps use in their final stages where they just throw a shiteload of the same badguys at you and make them harder to kill, I found that getting rid of all the weapons you had amassed over the game and introducing new game mechanisms much more interesting.
Then again, the painfully obvious irony of the final boss battle was a major distraction.

Too much Alanis ITT
It's like Halo fanboys, in your Half-Life 2 Game
It's being snide, when you don't know you're insane
It's creating a thread, which is fagged up by nerds
And isn't it a bummer, don't you think?

It didn't stop me from buying the Orange Box it's a good game, just not that special. Halo might be repetitive but in the OMGFUCKYEAH-department it trashes it. Resistance takes the best out of both imho it really is a great shooter. The second is just epic I wouldn't know how they could make it any better.

Easy, add mouse and keyboard support.
