Hi. I have another weird death dilemma. I noticed in Thief 3 when I throw an oil flask on the ground, and a human npc slips and falls they sometimes get knocked out from the fall, especially if they fall on stairs or from a certain height. Now the weird thing is, I was just replaying the Cradle; I was in the morgue to burn Lauryl's gown, and I typically deal with the 2 puppets there by tossing an oil flask on the grated vents and have them chase me - they slip and get stuck in the vents and can't get out. What was strange this time around is that both of them died as soon as they slipped and fell, which theoretically shouldn't happen seeing as they're undead. Is this some kind of bug in the game?

Obviously. Famously, Gamall can be knocked out in each city section (and drowned at Docks) with oil flasks, though it's a continuity error every time, and she comes back every time you go through a loading zone. The oil flasks allow slipping/sliding AIs to interact with their environment in unpredictable ways, and can cause violent collisions that aren't always visible for how small the area of affect is or how fast it happens. An animation may show movement in one direction that suddenly snaps back, corrected by the engine. The animations may cause clipping that triggers an injury. And AIs may careen out of the predetermined navigation zones and confuse the engine.

I usually just try to avoid her, because the first time I played that level she seemed immune to my weapons, so I just stay out of her way...:sweat:

Last time I checked, the oil actually made the zombies 'pass out', and Gamall actually was standing in the water in the docks rather unhappily. Try throwing a flashbomb around the zombies and they'll make the same sounds when they where standing. And I haven't experamented with Gamall that much lately.. :ebil:

Hmmm...The puppets were definitely dead, not passed out. I went up to them, stabbed them a few times, jumped on them, and they didn't react....

I tried the oil flasks on Gamall several times, but she won't slip :(

I can only make it happen once in awhile. It helps if she hits the oil puddle while running.
