Just spotted this at (
http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&boardid=1&threadid=111231) Blue's News:
(
http://www.maniaplanet.com/)
Nadeo have officially announced (I do recall previous mentions being made) two new derivatively (and blandly) titled but hopefully fun-as-hell games:
Shootmania (a FPS), and
Questmania (an RPG). And, of course,
Trackmania 2 is still in the works.
It sounds like they're looking to continue their efforts from TM around enabling user-generated content for each game. If the gameplay is solid, and they can make the editing tools even approximately as simple to use as Trackmania's is, and leverage the massive community they already have, then both these games might wind up being very interesting indeed.
All a bit vague at present, but certainly one to keep an eye on. Personally, I'm dead keen to see what they can bring to these new (for them, AFAIK) genres.

From EvaUnit02:
"Do keep in my mind that Nadeo are owned by Ubisoft now. So don't count your chickens before they're hatched in regards to mod support and consumer friendliness in general (eg Ubisoft's current preferred DRM scheme)."

Ubi straight up said in their conference that ShootMania and QuestMania were going to be toolsets more than games.
They are almost certainly going to be tied to that UbiOnline thing, though.

The saddest thing about this is that you probably have no clue how sad your last two posts make you look. Sad.

On topic:
Though I love Trackmania, I still play it far more than I should, I doubt the formula is that easy to translate. The easy thing about race tracks is that no matter how boring the track is, you can still have an exiting match between players. This worked wonders for the online community since even the first tracks of a starting designer will be fun to play. And that shows in the immense amount of tracks out there.
For an RPG this really isn't the case. Maps will take a lot of work to be fun, and even with a lot of work the fun isn't guaranteed.
For an FPS this issue might be less so, a death match can still be fun in a very simple map. However, here player level matching suddenly becomes very important. Trackmania hardly suffers from this, and hardly has a system in place for this. A starting player still can have a fun duel going on in the closing ranks. If a player is successful this doesn't hinder the other players, the cars don't collide.
With an FPS the starting player gets butchered. Shootmania probably ends up needing a lot of player level specific servers, automatically limiting the number of players available to play against.
They seriously run the risk that the well populated Trackmania servers don't convert well to Shootmania.
