Yes. Even as she is more natural, she still is exaggerated.

And since it's not earthly, the possibilities of alchemy or purple henna can be tapped. That whole Medieval thing is not as prominent in Thief as people imagine, either, but the reaction to her appearance is understandable.

I also imagine an entirely plausible and non-fantastical female would still get negative attention.

You're totally right - from the other half of the fanbase who really, really enjoy their busty, scantily-clad fantasy females. I don't want to be cynical, but I think I know which way EM will fall on this issue.
