You make some valid points, but I am not sure weather I agree or disagree. I personally did feel there was a change in his character at the end. However the point is really somewhat moot, because if Garrett does return to the series in a lead role I highly doubt they are going to write in a completely new sense of purpose for his character. So with that in mind you are right that he will use the events of the third game as an advantage to his profession. Yet I am not confident that was what they were trying to convey at the time they made the game.

Sure Garrett has changed. So has The City, and G's future. He finally got what he's wanted all along and now you want him to be not be independent at all?

Well, I guess I was trying to argue along the lines of he's given into his role as the true keeper and possibly has some further understanding of the prophecies that indicated he was fated to save this city despite his motives. Yet when you put the master/apprentice scenario in the light of him losing his independance.... I think you've given me enough reason to side against the it.

Yeah. He was the classic Garrett after he activated the Final Glyph and said:
"If I never see another Glyph again...it will be too soon."
It was perfect. He got what he always wanted.
I'm hoping
Thief 4's theme is "Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it." :ebil:
"...the meeting devolved into chaotic debate as the Brothers sought to arrive at a consensus:"
"...rejected full initiation just prior to the ceremony..."
"...accused the Brotherhood of error, of hesitating to make use of our knowledge..."
"...proclaimed he 'could not stomach' the path we have chosen..."
"...thief!"
"...nevertheless, he still possessed the acolyte's training he received at our hands, and thus understood the glyphs which remained..."

I checked frame by frame from the first darkening of the shadows to the last frame after which the waif is never seen again is 15.4 seconds
how exactly does 15.4 seconds of an unnamed character saying they're hungry and failing to pick a pocket equate to a change in the main character of the franchise, a character that is present for hours of game play and several minutes of cutscene in that one game alone ?
if we're going to change character why don't we change over to one of the unnamed keepers that wandered around the library while Garrett robbed it, after all they were on screen for at least as long and they said stuff too, plus as they are now out of a job they could probably use the work just as much
the kid is a nonentity, a nameless vessel to allow an ironic look back into the past by Garrett to close the circle and probably provide an end to the franchise as no sequels were planned at the time, nothing more, no one was retired to make way for new blood, no torches got passed, no fedoras got blown to the feet of the young champion, no one died saying "avenge me", no one was locked in a cell with Garrett and became their apprentice for helping their escape, they failed to pick a pocket that's all that happened
15.4 seconds and people are ready to wipe out the greatest thief in history

The very simple answer is: These 15 seconds were apparently made and placed so well that everybody couldn't help but notice some significance. :p You're making things a bit too simple and you don't even need to in order to see that the end of TDS isn't giving any clear hints.

I still want garret to be in Thief four, set in the victorian steampunk environment. More immense storyline and stealth elements, tools and so on. Stephen Rusell voice over and keep the same old music and sounds. I really missed them and these are little things which made thief what thief is.
If there is a girl to be included in as part of the game character how about lady gaga? :joke:
The only lady i look up to in the series so far has got to be Viktoria.
