I have recently been playing the first Half Life games plus all the extra packs like blue shift etc and I remember playing a similar game in which I think you played as space cowboys or something like that. The game starts with you crash landing on a planet with some fellow men and in one scene there is a space ship shooting at you whilst hovering overhead but that's about all I can remember at the moment
Anyone have an idea what it wad called it may have been a source engine game or a mod or even an unreal engine game

Yup definitely Gunman Chronicles. It was not so great and much too short but I remember enjoying it nevertheless, especially the weird weapons.
Not Source but GoldSrc. One of the first to tread the "fan mod turning commercial game" path.

Yeah Gunman Chronicles was pretty decent. I particularly like the 2nd world.

Are Valve ashamed of Gunman Chronicles or something? It was never Steam-ified and thus seems to be lost in the ether.
I mean every other Valve-owned GoldSrc game is on Steam and has been updated to modern builds of the engine, even absolute garbage like Ricochet.

Also there is a crazy japanese arcade vertical shooter where you are flying on animu steampunk machines. I think the characters you could choose from were an old man who kind of looked like a fat Zan (the old guy in Streets of Rage 3) or some animu girls. It was a bullet hell shooter, iirc welp.
