I've just started my nautical Morrowind career after paying 200,000 for my nice new ship. Has anybody else had fun sailing in Morrowind?
I've had some good experiences so far and some strange ones. Firstly, the Bitter Coast is the best place for sailing I've found. The coast looks interesting and I found myself dropping anchor quite frequently to jump off and explore. The Daedric ruins between Hla Oad and Gnaar Mok were great, and there are even some submerged ones a ways off shore. I liked finding new wrecks, and just walking around the deck and peering overboard while the ship was speeding through the water.
But Morrowind obviously wasn't designed with ships in mind. Even a big harbour like Ebonheart is horribly designed. The only way out is a TINY little inlet between the land and Vivec's temple. It just seems strange, and you don't notice it until you sail it for yourself, instead of fast-travelling through. So many of the ports of Morrowind are just insanely difficult to get to, and it feels like the designers didn't really take this into account when designing the 'realism' of the world.
Just a thought.

That sounds great, I didn't even know you could do it. Where would I buy a ship?

It's a mod.
Err, can't help any more than that, though. I never tried those particular brand of plugins.

No that helps, I finished Morrowind yonks back and have been surviving on mods for some considerable time. I'll pop along to the Summit and get it.
Cheers!

Yeah, I can see how something like that would damage the immersion of the game.
Still, I guess it does explain the large number of shipwrecks around Vvardenfell ;).

Including the one, not surprisingly, just by Vivec's Temple!
edit: I just want to say that it's the Stormrider mod that I'm using, and it's a nice 'vanilla' ship mod. Nothing too flashy, but it works consistently. Well, actually, my copy of Morrowind isn't exactly consistent these days... nothing like crashes to desktop every five minutes to destroy the suspension of disbelief...

Live, I know the feeling. I suppose it's my abundance of mods that cause my crashes. As I've said before, I'm running more than 80. But the inconsistencies and the conflicts are what makes things interesting!
I used to use the Sell 'n Sail mod, which is a predecessor of this Stormrider mod. I'm glad you made a post about it! It seems to deliver many more features than Sell 'n Sail, and is undoubtedly much cleaner. Thank you! And for those who want a link, it can be found on the Thelys site.
