Hello,
I have played Thief and Thief 2 for a long time and I am thinking of buying Deadly Shadows. However I am not sure that it will run on my computer. I have a Geforce 4 MX 420 graphics card but the system requirements say that this chipset is not supported by the game. Does that mean that it won't run at all for me? All my other system requirements seem adequate: Athlon 1600, 256 mb RAM. If it would run on my computer would it work to an acceptable level? I am happy to run it with various graphics options turned down.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I think it wont run at all, on a MX card.
There aren't really any options to turn off either, so that's out.
Sorry.
(but I might be wrong)

No, you are not wrong. The MX series of cards to not support the required Pixel Shader functions, and therefore the game will not work.

OK, thanks for the guidance guys. It is better to establish these things before making a purchase.

Of course, these days you can get it for US$19.99, so I'd say get it so that you'll have it if/when you update your computer.

Hmmph, well you can actually get it for quite a bit less than that even, and tbh I can't really see the point of buying it before your system can handle it. It's not like stocks of Thief 3 are going to suddenly run out or anything.

Maybe not, but EBGames.com doesn't have any, and I haven't seen it in stores for a while.

The point is that if you don't buy now, later may be too late. Some games later just disappear after they get old. and if there's plenty of thief 3 today, maybe in a year it'll be difficult finding them.
Then you have to look for it on e-bay, abandonware sites, etc...
I had an old computer some time ago and still I bought games that would not run on it. Now, I canenjoy then. it's even interesting, because when you buy the new computer, you have the game and it will run very smoothly.
Of couse... if it's too old, maybe your computer will be so new that yo'have compatibility issues...
but if it won't be so expensive, why not buy the game... it may even stimulate you on buying a new Pc or maybe upgrade it!

I don't think there's much chance of it disappearing. It's already had a budget re-release for one thing, and those things never go out of print. And it's hardly difficult to find Thief 1 or 2 either.

Oh no, God forbid one might have to use eBay .

Interestingly enough, there is still a copy of Thief Gold at the EB Games near me. I'd get it, but I already have a copy and haven't felt the urge to pick up a second copy (although as worn out as my discs are it would probably be the smart decision). Ah well. Point is, it's not too hard to find such things years later, especially using Ebay.
