I wasn't. The main thing I was saying is you can't get thief gold here. The fact that you can still get original versions in us shops amazes me.

I see. From where I was sitting it looked like you were bemoaning the fact :sweat:.
But yeah, the USA is funny like that. I remember strolling into a record store in Oregon and finding vinyl LPs released 15 or 20 years earlier still in their original shrink-wrap.

Don't do that, I used to have one of those. When it plays, it's incredibly jerky. Not unplayable jerky, but immersion breaking jerky.
It's what I used to play the first time through back in May '04, and I could use medium settings and get 20-30 fps, sometimes 15. That's "just fine" compared to not being able to play it. I know of at least one other person who played the game with the same card and he was fine with it. It's also about what the Xbox version runs at.
And if he doesn't do that, then what do you suggest, spending $200 for a GeForce 6600 GT? That would certainly be preferable for great smooth gameplay, but I'm trying to offer a very affordable option that does work, that's all. Most people can't just go out and spend over $100 in order to play one game

Well, I'm capable of running t3 on my computer:
* Iwill K266-R with modified bios to change the raid controller into regular ata 100 controller
* Athlon XP 1800+
* 512 megs ram (two 256 megs of pc133)
* one 6 gig hard drive (windows 2000) & 20 gig hd still running @ 66
* ASUS CD/RW & SONY CD/RW
* firewire 400 card & usb2 card running a 80 gig hd in two partitions
* Gainward Ultra/650 XP Golden Sample (nVidia GeForce 4 with Video-In/Video Out) 128 mb.
* Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS
I mainly use it for t3ed but it can run doom 3 & other games. Sometimes the FPS goes down the tubes :p
Problems:
This motherboard is picky! It doesn't like the ram (in fact none of my modules pass memtest). I have to disable acpi when installing win2000 or greater or it won't install. Sometimes t3 freezes up the video (just a weird tilable pattern I can't get out of w/o a restart). Right now I'm backing up my t3ed install & I cannot do anything else while the dvd burner is going :eww: (dvd-rw is usb2 which I mainly use on my powermac g3 blue and white & I can multitask while the dvd burner is going). I have to download a lot of stuff (pci latency patch, via 4in1 drivers, etc.) & tweak windows in order to get the system stable.
Upgrade problems (aside from a general lack of money):
* I wanted to get better quality ram but PC133 is hard to find anymore (aside from ebay or internet-but the quality of what you find there is sketchy). Also I don't think upgrading this system is worth it. And if I use the memory slot closest to the CPU & video card the memory gets really hot
* The GeForce 4 ti 4200 is getting a little outdated
* The mainboard has agp 4x capability but recent cards are 8x agp or PCIe
I hoped to replace the ram but 512mb pc133 is hard to find around here (which was cheaper than buying two 256 mb sticks). So I figured I need a new motherboard but that entails buying a new cpu, memory, and video card. It'd be cheaper to buy one of those Shuttle barebone systems. Then I'd run into expandability problems . . .
BTW, why the Hell did I rant in this thread?

Problems:
This motherboard is picky!
I remember having a cheap Soltek mobo, and had constant CPU overheating, powersaving (ACPI) issues, occasional random crashes, sometimes it took two or three tries to boot etc. I eventually replaced it with another board and swore there and then that I'd always buy from a "tier 1" mobo manufacturer. It's the heart of the system and in reliability terms (as opposed to performance) it's the most important part. Not that it's relevant to you (at the moment), but I'd always advise paying the extra £20 or so to get a top line board.
Now why am
I ranting in this thread?

I must have been having trouble with something else in my system then. Sorry for the possible misdirection. :)

I now have a 5900 Ultra and will play T3 quite well at 800*600 medium settings.
My 420 MX would not play it at all so you will definitely need a new card.

I have a ATI Mobilty RADEON 9000+ series graphics card on my laptop which on the box it says it doesn't support
But to tell you the truth buy it anyway to get an original box version and put it on the shelf to face you everyday you wake up so that way you wil be determined to buy a awesome computer worthy of enjoying Thief DS and be at peace.
That is what i did.
Domarius on 14/1/2006 at 04:07
I kind of did that :) Bought it anyway before I could play it. Though all I did was get a pixel shader 2 compatable card (GeForce 5200) to play it.

I just upgraded to a geforce 6200: 256 mb, 64 bit :p memory, etc. It's basically a 6600 with disabled pixel pipelines, lower clock frequencies, & depending on the manufaturer lower bits for the memory. I overclocked it to 400/700 (normally 350/530) using coolbits. Sometimes you can unlock the disabled (masked) pixel pipelines too but not on the card I have (PNY). At least I can see the extra effects in Doom 3 with the SDK enhanced mod now. Along with the extra 512 mb of ram (with I found at a mac store of all places) things are looking up for this tired and old computer. Now that I say that the motherboard will fry . . .
