Anyway, I have no advise, except to recommend that you PM Bikerdude - he helped me (and countless others here) with system setups. I bought a desktop pretty much verbatim the way he laid it out for me about 3 years ago, and it's still running strong, and running anything released these days extremely well.
Sorry for the late reply, I promise to keep an I on ThiefGen from now on, heh.
@Bretheren, glad its still going strong then mista ;-)
@Yakoob, do you still need a hand with this? I can see your going for a i7 2600k based system - if money is tight then I would go for the i5 2500k as its almost as fast at 2/3rds the price. I also see your looking at the nVidia 560Ti and SSD's both of which I have been recently researching.. What retails are you using? NewEgg and Tiger I'm guessing?
I upgraded my system a few weeks ago -

I am going with i5 instead of i7 cause the performance boost isnt worth the extra 100 bucks. And yes I am looking primarily at Newegg/Amazon, albeit I'm still considering prebuilt (ibuypower can deliver the same setup at the same price + water cooling and assembly done for me. But they only have 560Ti 2GB, not 560Ti 448)

Barely?, they're perfectly fine at stock, even with the shitty thermal-pad.
There's a reason why I qualified that with an IMO.
I don't think 75+ degrees on extended load is optimal for any machine. Whether that's good enough for everyone else is up to them.

I use the stock intel cooler and never go above 60, unless a wire gets jostled into the fan and slows it down.

well (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227382) this just got back in stock and I am super tempted to get it. Only thing is the card is GTX560, not even TI. But it has 16GB ram and i7-2600k, and still comes out cheaper than if I bought those parts separately. Any thoughts, Bikerdude? And any other outlets worth checking?
Also should I wait until AFTER xmas? I am not really seeing any good xmas deals tbh. So maybe post-xmas when they try to get rid of leftover stock? Or does that not apply to PC parts in general?
bikerdude on 9/12/2011 at 14:04
several problems with that machine, the PSU, ram, sound card are all 'unbranded' - so very likely cheap and possibly nasty. Wait untill I have knocked up a build via newegg for you.
Yakoob on 9/12/2011 at 14:18
Mmkk I trust you :) I am cool with on board audio tho, tbh, not a big audiophile

$59.99 - Rosewill GEAR X3 Gaming ATX Mid Tower (not a bad case for the price, CPU hole in mobo plate and side loading HDD slots, and loads of fan slots.)

The above spec is almost identical to my own PC,
* I am running a raid-0 array of 4x Samsung 320GB F1 drives. The Hybrid drive I specc'd while smaller than the 1TB you mentioned will blow the 1TB drive out of the water on frequently accessed data.
* The EVGA card is a very good deal as it will be as fast as a GTX570 and HD6970 on average, it has a twin fans so will be cool & quiet. And you can buy an extended 5/10yr warranty from evga for a few bucks.
* The ram is the same as I am running, both fast(via tight timings) and cool (due to the 1.5v).
* The mobo, is better than the one you specc'd as it has way more options and is the same price.
* The PSU is a single 12v rail unit, which will be fair more stable than multi-rail units - I myself am running a Nexus 1000W single rail unit.
* And lastly the cooler is the same as I am using, I choose it because it cools the North-bridge and the VRM heats-inks which is often overlooked by almost everyone.
This was just a rough guide I did during my lunch hour, if you want a more detailed spec I can do that over the weekend.

Thanks a bunch man :) Few comments
* Any particular reason for EVGA? (
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1339/pg7/nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-cores-graphics-card-review-skyrim.html) This benchmark omits EVGA but shows both Zotac and MSI as the best, and (
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5170/nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-with-448-cores-launch-recap-msi-gigabyte-zotac-and-evga) this review makes it sound as somewhat of an oddball.
* Regaring ASUS P8Z68-V, Im not gonna SLI so dont need extra PCI slots. All I want is the stuff to support the setup (socet, PCIE2(16x), 1600+ RAM), onboard Audio and Ethernet card, and some USB3 slots. Any good choices out of the $100 bunch?
* The RAM says "Designed for Intel P67 motherboard" but the board is Z68, would that be an issue (I'm guessing it's just marketing fluff, but confirming)
* PSU - lots of reviews on the link you posted say it has issues under stress (heavy gaming) and lots of PCs shut down because of it. So maybe not the best choice?
I'd love a bit more detailed spec over the weekend, if you don't mind. I am actually abroad and coming back to the US on the 17th, so that's when I'll start ordering and buying, so have a bit of time. And again, do you think I should wait until after xmas with this?
Thanks again :)
