Developers can make the worst controls in the universe seem awesome if they just explain them right, in a context that showcases how such a shitty control scheme can sometimes be beneficial.
Assassin's Creed 2 being the best example of how fairly simple controls become a menace because of a complete failure to explain them. "PUSH (HEAD ICON) TO TALK!" Now exactly which button is the HEAD ICON button...

whenever you are prone in special bushes you are invisible even when they walk right into you. other bushes make you invisible but let the koreans find you if they touch you. and you don't have to be prone for the suit to use the least energy, you have to stand still - meaning don't move, no matter what stance. the distance you can cover while the suit drains fully is the SAME for prone and run. run drains it quicker but you can travel the same distance as with the slow prone.
