Has anyone played the adventure pack (or whatever they call it) Mysteries of Westfold for NWN 2? I've been reading some articles on it and it sounds quite good, but I've grown tired of D&D games. If there's lots of dialogues and roleplaying potential, I might still get a kick out of the game, but I never enjoyed D&D battles that much. Any first-hand experiences, anyone?

Mysteries of Westgate you mean?
AFAIK, it's digital distribution only.
A. Direct2Drive doesn't operate outside of North America or UK.
B. It's available directly from Atari, but there's no way in hell that I'd use any major publisher's own digital distribution service. AFAIK, such services only let you download your purchase within a certain period, like a couple years or so from the purchase date, or some such anti-consumer ludicrous bullshit.
That only leaves Metaboli and its derivatives like Gamesplanet. I've never used them before and would be keen to get some feedback (Not counting the modern Gametap).
(Game.co.uk is apparently powered by Metaboli.)

You're right, of course, and I can't change the title any more. Frak.

Bah. I was interested in MoW when they first announced it and looked forward to it for a long time, but Atari just took the piss to the point I stopped giving a shit. They delayed it for over a year after completion, even past the release of Storm of Zehir, and all for the sake of some oddball DRM shitfuckery. A pity for the dev studio, Ossian.

I only read a couple of pages diagonally yesterday, but I seem to remember that the DRM's been lifted. Or perhaps that's just wishful thinking (although in practice I'm not too fazed by DRM).

I didn't know the particularities. Yeah, it looks like the DRM did feature limited activations which have since been (
http://www.ossianstudios.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=141) removed. Which is a good thing, because limited activations do indeed suck giant Transformer balls.
My ranting wasn't about that, though, it was about the fact that Atari took so long to make this proprietary bloody DRM thing that they delayed this premium module for over a year since it was completed and due for release. By which point I completely lost interest (a bit of a bummer considering I was more interested in Westgate than in Zehir, which I borrowed to play for one hour flat than never started up again). While that may sound whimsical of me, also consider to what extent this move on Atari's part completely shat on the dev studio - I'm genuinely curious if this lengthy process has ended up earning them more money than what they may have lost due to potential customers either forgetting or moving on to other things.

I was thinking about getting this, but there are several factors that I welcome TTLG's opinion on.
1) 9.99 in £, $ and €. This is not even close to equal.
2) I hated NWN2's campaign because of the hideous linearity. Even after I resolved the absurd performance issues, it was not an immersive game and it could only be saved by an outstanding story. There was none. MotB made up for a lot despite my initial WTF at the setting. SoZ was a brave sidestep that went some way to simulating real D&D and blah blah all well known. The point is that MoW wrapped in the dark ages, and I fear for it's quality.
3) Ossian have been fucked over more than the entire Whedon family, and at this point it seems like not paying their abusive publishers would somehow help?
Seriously...
* BioWare send out a call for adventurers to end the plague developers to make premium modules
* Several devs, including Ossian, get started
* Ossian do this out of their own pocket
* BioWare pay for some of the mods (but not Ossian's Darkness over Daggerford)
* Ossian finish DoD and release for free because they are awesome
* BioWare recommission Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, which has more in common with Barbie Horse Adventures than an RPG
* ???
* Profit!
I enjoyed Daggerford, and they deserve better. But realistically, if they spent 3 years sitting on their kobolds while the parent game was noticably improved TWICE, is it worth playing today? It's like expecting an Orange Box junkie to play VtmB: Bloodlines and not complain
Oh yeah.
4) DRM.

Anyone who plays VtM: Bloodlines and complains about the slightly dated version of the Source Engine doesn't have an opinion worth listening to, anyway. :p

1. 10 notes is not a lot of money anywhere, despite inconsistent pricing inequalities (THAT AFFECT THE MAJORITY OF THE GAMING PRODUCTS), get over it. I've far spent far more on stupid shit like alcohol in one evening.
2. Potentially older game mechanics != bad quality. Quit being so damn fickle.
3. Denying yourself potentially good products on moral principle is fucking retarded. Atari is probably going to keel over and die soon under the pressure of lawsuits anyway.
4. They removed the activation limit. SecuROM isn't malware that will parasitically suck away your system resources. Stop it with this ignorant tinfoil hat bullshit already.
