Meh. If they said a possibility of a new Freespace game, then I'd be all giddy.

Try to remember, anything that release will be console centric. A new freespace would require some major streamlining to have a function control scheme on a game pad. Have to wonder if you'd recognize it.
That said, have to wonder how a new descent would work on a control pad. I suppose you can use one stick to steer, on to strafe, and 2 should buttons for acceleration, but that only leaves like 2 buttons for everything else.

Unless it's... episodic PC Descent.
Er.

The post also mentions the Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance, and MDK IPs being shuffled around. Wouldn't mind a new MDK, but only if they get a developer who can match Shiny/Bioware's work on the first 2.
edit: aaah, that get's me reminiscing. Just look at this shit: (

Good news indeed, I love the Descent series.

We're long overdue for a Descent IV, but it just wouldn't feel right without something like a Spacetec SpaceOrb 360. However, that's a serial controller with no Vista/Win7 drivers at all, which makes it a no-go. All those 3Dconnexion devices lack DirectInput support as well, so that won't work either.
If only I had the resources to build this 6DoF/3D yoke concept for Descent and other such games...should provide the user more finesse over the craft compared to manipulating a small orb due to increased movement.

I need more joystick-friendly games.
But yeah, not sure you could do this with a gamepad. You'd need three hands to accelerate, shoot, strafe, and turn at the same time.

Erm... Any gamepad would have two sticks, four shoulder buttons, four regular buttons as well as a digipad, not to mention that you can press the sticks. That's about twelve more buttons than you account for, and that's without SELECT and START (or whatever the equivalents are on other controllers).

OK, you can press the sticks, so that's two more buttons - though given their clumsiness when the sticks are in use, that's not much help.
The other buttons are not forgotten - but unless you have a vastly different anatomy then most of us, you can't have your thumbs on thumbsticks and face buttons at the same time. Which means if they use them, you have to stop strafing or turning to actually press them. Neither is going to lend itself to a good control scheme.
