Greetings and salutations fair denizens of TTLG! I've been lurking around for about a year now and finally decided to just buckle down and register('bout time to:laff:). Anyway, just thought I'd pop in and ask what your favorite mission(s) are. Personally, I've always been a big fan of Return to the Haunted Cathedral and Down in the Bonehoard for OMs; Mission X and Rocksbourg: Ink and Dust for FMs.

Heya :) I'd have to agree with the Cathedral, it's my #1 pick as well for the OMs. I'd also say that the insane level design for Constantine's manor in The Sword is to be noted as well, and of course First City Bank and Trust. I don't have much experience in FMs, but i must give due to Lady Rowena's The Tower as it's a gem for such a small map (and my very first FM), also her The Seven Sisters 3 map wonder. I have recently played Calendra's Legacy and i have to say that making the guards turn the lights on when they enter the patrolled dark room is the single most "sense making" and difficulty increasing idea i have seen as of yet!

Hey, I actually got a response! Yeah, I loved the Sword to (earlier this year I visited the Winchester Mystery House and got chills when I noticed several references that LGS made in Thief), but I always hated the bank, too many well lit tiled floors. As for the FMs, I've never played the Tower but the Seven Sisters was good and Calendra's Legacy is excellent.

My favourite OM has to be Songs of the Caverns followed by Lord Bafford's :D and then surprisingly Into The Maw of Chaos.
My favourite FM is Calendra's Cistern. My real favourite is this one I don't know the name of, but I loved it. It was absolutely amazing. If someone can help me:
You are in this Hammerite...place. It's been a while since I played it but I recall some lifts and having to read some notes left out by a servant to find out what to do. And there's a library that makes haunted noises. And you have to creep around the wooden bits near the ceiling (I'm lost for words) and find quite a few keys. Then there's this bit where I think there's a smash (quite blurry for me) and you have to eavesdrop on this conversation then you go out and there's a corpse or an unconcious body or something and I think some Hammerite is fired, I'm not entirely sure since it was a few years since I played it.
Hopefully someone can help me, I LOVED it so much.

All good missions, I remember the first time I played Song of the Caverns I screwed up and BJ'd the hermit, needless to say this made the level rather hellish (no map, no key to the secret door, no intel whatsoever...), after that debacle I deliberately avoided the level until, several years later, I decided to give it another go and soon realized my mistake :p. As for the FM you were referencing, I'm not familiar with it, but if you figure it out then post it, it sounds interesting.

I'm glad you decided to join in the fun, Stath MIA. :) Welcome!
I think my favourite OM is Life of the Party from T2. For T1, it's Haunted Cathedral. I find it impossible to pick a favourite FM though. There are so many fantastic ones that it would have to be a huge list! Ominous Bequest, Rowena's Curse, The Seven Sisters, Christine's missions, anything Gaetane builds...and on and on and on. :cheeky:

You know what's funny? I think I only played the Haunted Cathedral once, way back. I liked it, but I just never played it that much. I played the Bonehoard at least seven or eight times, but really, though I would say Cragscleft Prison is probably my favorite. There's no reason why other than nostalgia, either; going through the mines at the beginning was just such an intense experience the first time I played that it left an indelible mark on my mind. I had read about the game in PC Accelerator magazine (remember that one?), and wanted to play it, even though they only gave it an 8, I think (they were not happy about the graphics quality even then). When I got to that part, I thought, "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life."
Then again, most of the things I think I like best about games are when something creepy happens when you're not expecting it. Many a night goes by when I remember playing the Lurking Horror by Infocom...and not realizing at first that the game had sound effects. That and the infamous "Guardian" in Zak McKracken. The game isn't scary at all...until you accidentally wake that thing up.
Still need to get around to playing and finishing Calendra's Cistern; I couldn't figure out where to go after awhile (and yes, I know now what to do, but I won't say it here) and gave up on it. Now I feel like dusting off Darkloader and giving the old game a spin...might get me off my duff and start that campaign I wanted to do years ago.
And about that one with the dead body...again, never got that far in any FMs, but I distinctly recall one where YOU have been left for dead (I believe that was the plotline) and you have to escape back to safety, with no gear in your possession. Is that the same one, by any chance?

Nightwalker: thanks for the welcome! I did enjoy Life of the Party, jumping from roof to roof made me feel very thiefish. I think I've played most of those FMs and enjoyed them, but I don't recall playing anything by Gaetane, what are some of his mods?
grypatch3: I definitely agree with you there, creepy spine tingling missions are the best. Also I remember the mod you're talking about, Left for Dead, it was very amusing picking locks with my finger bones and throwing my head as a scouting orb :laff:! Good times:).

Gaetane is actually a she. :) Her stuff is really well done and you should try out her missions when you can. We're awaiting a new mission pack, The Black Frog, to hopefully be released sometime in the next few months. I'm dying to get a look at it! :)
