MTC turned out to be alright imo, if maybe a tad misunderstood. I say we back off & give him a second chance.
Besides; I have this sharp stick and I know how to use it ..........;)
Whatever the truth or otherwise, 2nd chances are always good IMNVHO. And his grammar's OK so that always goes down well with me. :) My only beef is with the spelling of concerto. But there you go.
And besides - that's one scary stick you got there Dia. You think you could stop waving it about so much? ;)

Just had a PM conversation with MasterThiefGarrett & it turns out MC is a family member who joined with the intention of lending her sib some moral support (confided with such earnestness that I am compelled to believe it, so say what you will :p ). MTC turned out to be alright imo, if maybe a tad misunderstood. I say we back off & give him a second chance. Hell, we were all newbies once, right?
Given the level of "Can I add you as a buddy..." in MC's 'Hi, I'm New' thread... I'm not inclined to believe, Dia.
Add to that the level of event-editing that happened ("I put that ZylonBane chap to rights, and showed him what's what..."), and you have a very suspicious situation. Especially since, if they are siblings, they've played it up like they don't know each other.
I don't like people manufacturing events.

Or do I have to go back into the archives & dredge up old newbie-posts made by now-older members?

Devious. :ebil:

It's true what you say Solabusca - and I agree with you about manufactured events. But it's also true that joining a forum can be very daunting. It's not totally beyond the realms of possibility that the pms with Dia might be true and these manufactured events are just a support mechanism.
Suppose I'm more used to this sort of thing maybe happening in CommChat. Would be very disappointing if it was leaking through to the Thief forums. Have to say I hesitated in posting in Burgundy's new member thread till I saw that Digital Nightfall had bypassed it. So assumed it was genuine. A spate of new member posts? Difficult. Perhaps some of these new members might like to post in Uncadonego's 'Who Are You' Thread in Fan Missions forum instead of starting New Member threads here.

After I found out that Moonlight Concierto (her spelling, not mine) was allegedly MTG's sib and trying to lend support to her older brother that remark made more sense to me. Don't get me wrong: I was probably one of the first to object to a new member deliberately having two member accounts here. But something made me PM MTG & ask what his story was.

I interpreted that remark (in my newfound enlightenment ;) ) as coming from a younger-type newbie who mistakenly thought that because ZB didn't respond to MTG's heated retort that ZB was running off with his tail between his legs after receiving a sound drubbing from MTG. I chalked that one up to the fact that MTG just doesn't 'know' ZB and, well, youth being what it is, that maybe MTG was just a little premature in being so full of himself. Remember what it felt like to get seriously flamed after you first joined up here? Hurts, no matter how much you try to downplay it and is also embarassing; and then your self-defense mechanisms kick in and you usually end up just making things worse for yourself. So I factored in all of the above and thought it best to cut the kid some slack. (I did advise him to lurk awhile to get the feel of this place and its residents, however.) Good Lord, my dear; if everyone went off half-cocked because they took offense to some newbie's remarks and blunders (or just plain newbie-ism) we wouldn't have much of a forum left now, would we?
Hopefully MTG's learned a few lessons about these forums; albeit the hard way. I'm still willing to let bygones be. Time will tell if I'm wrong.
Nothin' but love for y'all! ;)

Heh, no hard feelings :) I'm taking a look at T2X as I speak. I've posted in that 'Who Are You' thread now, and I can assure you that I'm very much, bona-fide me. That's what the photocopier told me, anyway. :thumb:

Sorry, Dia. I've just seen too much forum drama (and too many trolls) to buy it. Given that "they" tried to fake out the forum as well, everything becomes simple: nothing "they" say is trustworthy. Even if there is a modicum of truth, it's coming after an attempt to deceive the ENTIRE forum; one that they've been caught in by the mods - of course there's a 'rational' explanation that'll be presented to the first person that asks.

Or that MTG is manufacturing and presenting his own version of events.

Actually, I was first flamed by ZB a few years after I started posting. Really, it was amusing.

Sorry, but that's ever so much bullshit. Stop defending them from trying to play the entire forum - that's THEIR job, not yours.

I'd have been inclined to cut him/them some slack if there hadn't been an attempt to lie their way out of it. Now? No slack. Nothing but contempt. Especially after seeing the posting habits. It's a con-job, Dia; yes, we should try to be nice to newcomers, but we really shouldn't try to be suckers - they, if it is a they, had their 'second chance' already. If they hadn't been so clearly sussed out - both by the moderation staff, and by the general ridiculousness of the coincidence of their mutual admiration society - then perhaps I'd have simply let it lie. But it was transparently

You're trusting, Dia. You really are. That's nice. But something about this just makes me suspicious. I'd have been willing to let bygones be bygones prior to the deceit. Now? I'd lay money that time will prove you wrong.
But until that point, this will probably be the last I say on the matter.

Um, yeah. I'm with Solabusca on this one. This is TTLG, where it is kill or be killed. This guy tried to kill, and funked it up. I think a lot if not most new members underestimate the Moderation here. This is not a day care, nor an arena to vent personal shortcomings. Really, if he is such a great person after all, lets wait and see what contributions come in the future.

Hi Garras, welcome to the forums, I just wanted to say I hope you haven't given up on getting Thief 3 working on laptop. I am running TDS on a Vista laptop and it goes just fine, so it can definitely be done.
