Here's the situation - some months ago (around October-ish) of last year my computer died. My motherboard fried out, nothing to be done, and over the holidays I ended up getting the innards replaced. It was done by a friend of the family while I was visiting my old home-town.
I used to run a very early Intel P4, but now I've got an AMD Sempron Processor 2800+, 512 MB of RAM. My video card is still the old one, a Radeon 9200.
Here's the thing - I've tried reinstalling ThiefG and Thief2 - I've had to do it in safe-mode, because in standard mode I couldn't get the setup program to run. But now I can't get either program to run. When I attempt to fire up Thief Gold, for instance, it just crashes out. I get an error message that includes the following:
AppName: thief.exe AppVer: 1.9.0.0 ModName: lgvid.ax
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000151d
I've looked in the technical faq, and visited Eidos' site, but can't seem to find what the problem is. So I'm hoping someone here can pick out the problem - I'm counting on you folks, because I'm going through withdrawal here!

Try renaming lgvid.ax It is the file responsible for ingame playback of the cutscenes. This would mean that you would not see cutscenes in game, but that may or may not bother you. :)

Well I'll be damned. I could get Thief Gold up and running. Now how would I be able to incorporate the cutscenes? Any ideas (and yes, I've already downloaded the alternate codecs, etc...
It just won't feel like Thief without the cutscenes.

Hurray!
Yeah, I had to do damn near everything in the FAQ, follow advice given in other threads, plus a few things from other forums to get all the games working without the worst problems. I haven't played any "fog" missions to see if I have fog or not.:)
Anyway, congratulations on your "new" computer.:thumb:

Well Solabusca, all I can say is that sumthing is interfering when ur cutscenes r about to play. U must have installed some codec packs or ffdshow. If so, remove all the codec packs. If u have ffdshow installed, then visit this & read my reply:
