Hi! I have a problem,
I have to use OLDER nvidia drivers for my nvidia 6800 videocard
´cos after installing latest drivers I had error: AGP memory is incorrectly
OR not accurately enough informed by drivers..or something like that. I suppose you already know this.
what´s the solution? I have win XP patch for thief 1.
thanks

I had this problem also once, but I never solved it properly.
The way I got it to work was when I had freshly reformatted by Hardrive, I installed all the latest Drivers and THEN installed Thief. Had no problems. But then I don't think you're going to want to do that. :erg:

I have played Thief Deadly Shadows through at least 6 times. I needed some more and I decided to start from the beginnig. From Thief The Dark Project. I'm usually after good graphics, but story in the end have more weight and what I'm heard, thief 1 have good one.
I now have Thief 1 gold and I too have same kind of problem.
Something about texture memory.
Well... Enyway I tried this "Thief: Gold Direct3D Texture Error Fix." All I got was "Please tell microsoft about this problem." window.
I have tested this in 2 PC:s. One have geforce 6800GT graphics card and other have geforce 7950 GX2. Both PC:s, same error.
Eh. Thats funny... I just tried tutorial and it worked (PC with GF 6800GT)... Tried few times... Well... Now it works randomly...
Hmm... I'll think about this more. And test older drivers if it has eny effect.

The Direct3D Texture Error Fix is a solution. Another one is reverting to older Forceware drivers. 84.21 worked for me and I don't notice any preformance drop in other applications.

Thanks Dan. I asked about a similar problem in a different thread, and it worked for me.
Here's what I did.
1) Went back to old 84.21 drivers.
2) Game still didn't run properly.
3) Reinstalled the game using the instructions in the FAQ on this forum.
4) Instead of running the Thief Gold Direct3D fix this time, I typed in safe_texture_manager instead in the user.cfg file
5) Since I had already installed the Indeo drivers last time, I didn't have to mess with them this time to get the movies to run.
6) Unlike last time when the game only ran when I went to compatibility mode in Win98, this time I left compatibility mode alone
7) I ran the solution that is listed in the FAQ for running only one of my CPUs.
8) I ran the game and it worked.
Unfortunately, the game has crashed for me sometimes, freezing my whole system visually, but I can still hear sounds. I can't alt-TAB or use Ctrl-Alt-Del. But oh well, the crashing in Thief Gold seems to be intermittent, so I have no idea what it could be, and its not listed in the FAQ.
I guess I'll save frequently. Thanks again for the help everyone. TTLG community rocks! You guys are the best. So many years after the game's release and you guys are still over here helping people out, making sure the games run on newer computers. Amazing. :)
By contrast, Alien Vs Predator refuses to run on newer Nvidia cards, and the one or two people that I found on message boards still playing that game seem to think the only solution is to find an old computer to run it on.

Thats interesting, I have fairly new drivers and I have a 6800 as well. Do you have the SLI version? (I do and its never given me any problems, although thief 1 gold recently stoped working for me)
Niko40 on 20/10/2006 at 10:28
It works randomly on both cards. One is (gf 6800GT) with AGP and the other is (gf 7950GX2) with PCI-e. (That card is actually 2 cards and communications between cards are handled via internal modified SLI. So I guess it's SLI I have. (Not Quad SLI) Don't seem to have eny effect to the game.)
I tried compatibility settings "Windows 2000" and now it seems to work better/more often (Win 95/98/NT did not worked).
I have quite new drivers on both PC:s. I can try older drivers to 6800 but I don't know how old drivers support 7950. And I really want play this game on my own PC. (6800 is in my sister PC and I have 7950.)
Well... I suppose I'll leave it like that. If the game starts, it works as long as I play. So it don't really bother
In any case, Thanks for your opinions.

I have the observations that half of the people here have GF 6800-s:)(me too). I think that newer drivers are made to handle the problems of newer cards, so probably they'll work for the 7950. The Direct3d texture fix worked but it gave me game freezes. As I said the older drivers didn't seem to reduce performance, but also fixed some problems in other games. I Guess that you should watch wich drivers you install refering to your video.

Got a 7600gt and now I have the same problems. Driver 84.?? works
but newer ones I tested showed the d3d problem.
But I didn´t by a new gcard to use old drivers .
Thank you nvidia !
With the Thief Gold Fix it´s strange because sometimes the fix
works and sometimes it doesn´t. And I haven´t figured out
why.
Another question: I changed from a 9800pro (which worked fine with thief but died recently)to the 7600gt and
in my opinion the sky (especially around the moon) in the very beginning
of the first level of thief 2 also as other textures look worse than before with my 9800pro .
Is this just a feeling or can anyone approve this.
What does the d3d patch actually do? Does it reduce the texturequality somehow ?
Greetings....
