So far the only issue I had was when BintoE.exe failed (BintoE.exe has stopped working) causing DEOCI to fail (DarkEngineObjectCinverterInterface has stopped working), or at least think that it failed. It sent the failed message, but remained up??
Other than that, looks and seems to work great.
I'm not so certain how often anyone would want a 3ds file placed in the obj directory though as the default.

Maybe some useful features:
•running deoci.exe via 'open with' and the selected file
That's currently beyond my abilities.
Quote:
•An option for no texture export
Done. There's now a checkbox that says "Don't extract unconverted textures".
Quote:
•deleting the intermediate e.-file when creating 3ds
Done. The program will also clean up other temporary files. The Temp folder gets cluttered enough with me adding to it.
Quote:
•No reset of the output folder path to blank on program start.
I've added a checkbox that says "remember output folders". The list was reset by default because I think it's more common to put each object in its own folder.

I've added some code to check that the .e has been created and that it's length is > 0. I hope that's enough, but it depends on whether or not there are any other results of a BinToE failure. When that sort of failure is detected you'll get a simple message box from my program, and temp files will be cleaned up.

It could be that someone has already placed the bin file in the 'destination' folder.

It was making that the default that I questioned, not the option. Is that the most likely scenario of all the scenarios? Whatever is most likely, that's what should be the default.
Edit: and I was even able to hook up IrfanView without a hitch.

Are we talking about the same option here? I thought you meant Output Folders > Converted Object: Same as source, but that is off by default. Were you referring to something else? Bear in mind that most of the settings get saved when you exit the program.

RSoul: Sorry I haven't tested it out yet. I kinda got sidetracked over the weekend.
Once I find copies of BintoE and Eto3DS, I'll give it a whirl. I can verify that it does fire up on Windows 8 at least.

Yes, Converted Object > Same as Source, that checkbox is checked by default. I'm sure I didn't check it myself. Same for texture ... But I just checked the zip, and you're right, I must have. :o

If you use Windows Vista and above, and you have UAC enabled, this program may occasionally ask for higher privileges. You will be prompted under the following circumstances:
* When the converted files are to be placed in a protected folder (e.g. within Program Files);
* If the program is within Program Files, a prompt will appear when you close the program. It saves your settings and previous file/folder selections to "settings.txt";
* You actually get two prompts here, and both requests should both be granted.
It doesn't matter if the program is within Program Files. No matter where you place the directory, if you have UAC enabled you get prompted whenever this program attempts to write a file. Why? BintoE doesn't. What about the GUI causes this?

I must have tested it wrongly. I just double checked on Vista and you're right about the UAC prompts. I've changed it now so that that those bullet points are correct.

I've PM'd the four of you the download link for version 1.1. I appreciate your feedback so far.
nightshifter, do you want the link too, or are you not familiar enough with object editing?

Just did my first conversion. The model came over and imported into Blender just fine. The textures? The only way I can seem to do anything is to bring all the files over untouched. Trying to do a convert using the "Blender (2.58 onward)" preset would give me a "texture conversion command not selected" error.
This is all based off a glance through the readme, and a quick rush through the program. Any problem I'm experiencing is likely due to me missing something.
So far though, it works just fine on my end.
