Given what you said earlier about Linux not running in full hardware mode, I wonder why the Air Force chose PS3s for processing. Then again, I wouldn't put it past them.

I suspect that they had something custom-written for them that maximised resources. Not like they needed access to the GPU or anything after all.

Exactly. My father in law was one of the air force's lead programmers for 30 years, and he said they use custom software for everything.
