Welp, looks like you weren't the only fan: they achieved their funding day one.

Just in time to cleanse the palette of the news that Lord British's new game will be a fucking MMO, here's Alpha gameplay footage of Shadowrun Returns.

Renz, in the other thread you said this was a sequel to the SNES and Genesis ones? I get the SNES connection with Jake - what's the connection to the genesis version?

I remember reading somewhere, maybe on the original Kickstarter page, that the plotlines for both console versions were considered canon for this game. You'll see references to both throughout.

A character named Armitage? Shadowrun really does wear its Neuromancer inspiration on its sleeve, not that that's a bad thing by any means. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.

Well his first name is Jake.
Zomg they brought him back for this one.:eek:. *faints*. I play SNES Shadowrun once every 1-3 years. Absolutely love it.
God damn. I really can't wait for this game to come out :D.
Just watched the first few minutes of the video. Looks nice, but it's a shame that they didn't go with the conversation system from the SNES game. In it you learned key words that you acquired via conversations with people, which you then could use in future conversations as conversation topics. But ah well, they went more with a Fallout style main conversation topics with stat based extra topics thrown in.
[edit]
Aww there's no cyberspace :(. Both the Super Nintendo and Genesis games had really fun cyberspace sections.

It's funny. I fire up the game about as often as you do. Have been since I discovered emulators way back in the late 90's. Yet after all that time I've been playing the game, I've yet to beat it.
...maybe I should do that here soon. I haven't played much of anything since I beat Dark Souls. It'd be a good game to segue back into things with. At least ready myself up for when this comes out.
Then I've gotta decide if I want to buy it for the PC or iPad. I dunno why, but playing a Shadowrun game on an iPad seems sorta fitting to me.
Also, if you watch the video all the way through, it looks like Armitage isn't just an NPC you can talk to once or twice, he can become a member of your party at some point.

Yeah I did notice that. Wonder if you can play as him or if you have to create a new character entirely.
What's the furthest you've got in the old game? I've beaten it a dozen times now.
