Bought'd! I'll be able to play it after 3 long, grueling hours, and 45 hellish minutes of waiting.

Where is this count down? Or is that a general estimate?

12 hours of gameplay in the base starting campaign huh? (according to the RPS article). Had been hoping for atleast 50.
Though I already know of 2 fan made singleplayer campaigns (made by people who had early editor access), 1 is a remake/reboot of the SNES game the other is a completely new one.
The SNES remake/reboot: (

The other: (

The 2nd is what is planned to be a 100 hour (minimum) campaign spanning a shitload of individual episodes. Of those only the 1st episodes out currently.
Sounds a bit like Neverwinter Nights 1. There was SO MANY singleplayer levels/campaigns for that game. My god.

Well I played it for 2 hours. First impressions:
The Good:
* Story seems quite good
* Musics excellent. Though it doesn't sound like either of the earlier games really.
* The karma skill upgrade system is very much like the mega drive game, so faithful to the original P'n'P game in that regard.
* I can see a truckload of awesome fan made content coming for this game.
* It feels like a Shadowrun game through and through. Mega positive points for that.
* Graphics look good.
Neither:
* Combat seems easier than in the other games. More Fallout 1-2 / XCOM-ish in some ways. Both of the earlier games had you getting your ass handed to you early on. Not died once so far. I'm sure that will change. But since enemies don't respawn, farming karma isn't possible anymore. Spent AGES in both games doing that + for money to get the good equipment.
* They turned Jake (main character of the SNES game) into a smartass trouble maker. Not sure what to make of that. I'd always pictured him as being a more serious type. Especially after the events of the earlier game.
* I could have sworn that I paid for the deluxe edition of the game on steam, but ended up with standard somehow. I had been looking forward to listening to the remixed tracks from both of the earlier games :(. Must have been mistaken. And there's no way to upgrade beyond buying the game again. Grrrrr.
The Bad:
* The game isn't as free roaming as either the SNES or Genesis games. Though with that said I did watch a let's play of "A Lost Lamb" (fan made episode for the game), and that appeared far more open. So maybe it was a design choice for the standard campaign rather than how the game works.
As an example I wanted to explore my apartment at the start, but the game decided nope and sent off to a flashback and then off somewhere else before I got the chance to.
The elimination of this, takes away much of the fun spent exploring which I did the first time around in the SNES game. Which also eliminates exploration = reward style stuff.
And you can't come and go as you please. Instead only being allowed to go where your supposed to in that part of the story. Once again, that's apparently not in the fan made stuff but as I've not played any yet (3 are available on the steamworks so far as of this post) I'm not certain on that.
* The way items you have on you + in your stash is odd. I bought some new armor towards the end of my 2 hour play of it and the item by default got sent off to my stash rather than my inventory which was odd. And other than that moment when I was buying it I couldn't access my stash and I have no idea how you access that as the game never told me.
* A few of the icons have no explanations / mouse over info
* When creating your character and choosing an "Etiquette" it doesn't explain the meaning of each of them. So unless you had prior knowledge of the Shadowrun universe through playing the earlier games you'd be screwed at that bit. Having some sort of mouse over info or information on the Etiquette come up once you select it would be good. Since it has a flow on effect in conversations throughout the game once you've chosen it.
I'll say more once I've played more of it.

I just had that problem with buying armour and the stash. Where is it?
Renzatic on 25/7/2013 at 22:14
Driver, you won't have access to your stash until after you find Coyote. Yeah, I did the exact same thing, and it confused me too. It was kind of a dumb move on the devs part to have a vendor placed in what's basically still the tutorial stages.
My opinions on the game just about mirror Icemann's. There's a ton of good stuff here, but it doesn't feel as open as the SNES and Megadrive versions. Really, the game seems more interested in telling a story and showing off the setting rather than giving you a huge world to explore. It's a good fun time, but it feels a little more funneled along than I was expecting.
I think like NWN, the really gut punching good stuff is gonna come from the community and future expansion packs.
Oh, and the writing is just about as great as everyone is claiming. Jake Armatige's appearance was a little out of character compared to the dour bastard he seemed to be in the SNES original, but you couldn't help but laugh at the things he said.
And with that said, I'm off to play again.

Yeah, I just found it. Bit of a pain because I could have used that armour what with all that shooting going on.
The linearity seems incredibly forced, I'm never that sure where a doorway will take me, even if I've just come through it a minute ago. A main hub and bits that open up when you need to go there for the story would have worked better, I think. Still, I'm only an hour or so in, I'll see how it goes.
