My point stands.
Game looks like it might be worth a pop though. It's very DXHR stylistically, right down to the HUD orange outlines.

It looks far more like Mirror's Edge to me, art direction wise.
EDIT:-
Oh and the orange highlight thing was ripped off from Mamori Oshii's Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2.

Yeah, could be. I've spent about an hout on Mirror's Edge (ragequit and uninstalled because I wasn't in the mood for that much trial and error at the time) and about 20 or so on DXHR, so my parallels are probably being drawn on what I know better. Corporate sci-fi tends to have a "style" lately that is pretty tightly defined though. Smart uniforms, lots of glass, chrome and LCD displays etc..
I'll probably buy it eventually once I've made a dent in my increasingly ridiculous backlog. I'm starting to think I need to have kids just so they can take over when I die.
[EDIT] On further thought, I can definitely see the Anime influence on the style. It is very reminiscent of GitS.

Here I was hoping that they'd do something daring like have the protagonist remain a puppet for his dystopian masters for the entire narrative.
You don't really understand cyberpunk, do you? The very
name of the genre specifically calls for two things: high technology and rebellion. Ergo, cyberpunk.
Even Blade Runner, which wasn't technically cyberpunk despite codifying a lot of the visual cues, was ultimately about the rebellion of artificial lifeforms wanting the same kind of lives as their human masters, with all that entails.

There is post-cyberpunk fiction ya know? Where the main characters are working with the system. A prime example is GitS: Stand Alone Complex. They aren't obligated to follow the cliches of the genre.
Let's not forget that in original Syndicate games you WERE the soulless corporate representative, pulling the strings.

Lol @ "I never asked for this" in the trailer.
It may be just because I am too old I've played too many games by now, but almost every time a new game is announced it just makes me go "oh another xyz following the same cliche and predictable plot..."

Well I stand by what I said earlier. That's not Syndicate.
They should have just called it "Not Deus Ex, but we'd like to be". The annoying thing is that it looks good, and if it wasn't called Syndicate I'd quite likely like the game as I LOVE Cyberpunk games.

I personally don't get why they're using the IP. All of the fans of the original would presumably prefer a reboot to be something top down and strategic. All of the people who are crying out for a new Sci-Fi FPS presumably won't care about the Syndicate IP. All that's left is that maybe scores of grumbling die hard fans must add up to good marketing for the IP in general somehow. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

I thought that was the main reason most IP revivals happen. The people who don't know the originals don't feel like they're getting yet another sequel, and the people who do know gush, and then rage, until everyone else is excited.
