Glad it wasn't just me wondering that.

Lol @ "I never asked for this" in the trailer.
Nono it's "I never
wanted this" so it's totally different. :p
Yeah it doesn't look very original does it? Still it looks like it'll be a blast to play and the music is BUMPIN so I will probably play it at some point.

Not being stupid, I'm guessing they know this. Maybe their focus groups tell them that their target audience likes tired clichés...
Either way, games seem to be bad at avoiding them. Same goes for "showtime". Whoever put the trailer together made a conscious decision, probably as part of a committee, to make sure that the phrases were in there.
On another note, why is it that books and films are still so many leagues ahead of games in terms of delivering narrative, dialogue and exposition? I'm guessing interactivity stands in the way to some extent, but given how damned profitable AAA titles are these days, you'd have thought that more of the distance would have been closed by now. Except I suppose that if it's already so profitable, there's no need to change it...

Watching the trailer on gametrailers brought me here.
- Cool music: check
- Several similarities to DX:HR: check
- Not like the original strategy game I never quite worked out: check
- Planning to preorder that: check
I'm easy. :p
(Yes, I will also look for some in-depth narrative and proper story and what not. But the ad worked on me, so its goal was achieved.)

Oh fuck, I'll probably buy it, but then I'd probably buy it based on it looking like a good game, not because it is called, or has anything to do with Syndicate.

I gave the 360 coop demo a try. You can also play it solo by chosing Create Private Match, but that's really difficult since it's designed to be played by a team of 4. The combat is very COD-ish, a lot of hiding behind cover and popping out to zoom and fire a few shots. There's also a hacking functionality called Breach. By aiming at a fellow player and holding down the Breach button you heal them, no matter how far away they are, though you need to be really close to heal them if their healthbar has drained and they've "shut down". You can also disable thrown grenades by Breaching them.
Can't say the demo really did it for me, but then again I've never been too fond of this style of coop gaming.

That's a very good question. On one hand I hate it since it calls itself Syndicate and has NOTHING to do with previous 2 games at all, then on the other hand I love Deus Ex and as I've said earlier if it wasn't called Syndicate I'd definitely be buying it.
So at the cost of possibly looking like a fool, I'm leaning more towards a yes than a no as I would have bought it under a different name. And I'd prefer to pay and possibly hate it, than judge it completely off videos. As much as the videos make me angry every time I watch them.
In comparison when the last Shadowrun game was announced a few years ago (which had zero to do with the games before it just like with this game) I would NEVER have played a game like that (since they had turned a top down action rpg into team based FPS game). So didn't buy it. Which alot of people did also, considering that the game did quite badly sales wise apparently.
So more towards a yes than a no, though I'm still undecided. Though if I do get it, every time I go the game menu and see "SYNDICATE" I can see myself muttering "grrrr". Be nice if someone does a fan mod to it later to change the damn name.
