*You should read the ReadMe file throughly. Loot is well hidden but hopefully not so much as to become tedious. Look behind everything, look under everything. I'll just tell you there is nothing in the canals, so you don't waste hours combing the bottom.
*Expert level has a small area with forced ghosting, so if you're truly against such things it might be better to play on Hard difficulty.
*NOTE: A couple of mods will NOT work with this mission: At the very least you'll need to disable the "NewT2SFX" mod and the "Thief2 Fixed" mod. Probably safer to disable all mods.

I get a crash to desktop right on the shop screen. Could that be caused by a conflicting mod?

Crash on the shop screen.
Renamed the whole MOD dir and shop works (fonts are crazy though) but crash upon the mission start.

If disabling mods doesn't work, all I can say is do a complete fresh install of Thief 2, plus NewDark 1.27e...do not add any mods at all and let's see if that does it. Many people are able to play, so it has to be something in your installation.

First of all, I am thrilled to see a new release from you. Your missions are one of my favorites.
Unfortunately, I also get the "crash on shop"-bug that everyone here reports. Disabling mods, even renaming the usermod folder does not work at all. I have a clean install of the Steam version with T2fix (1.27). Using AngelLoader 1.11.0 (64 bit)
Out of all 400+ missions I played and tested with this exact setup, this is the first and only one that crashes like that.
Would be interesting what setup the "many people" who are able to play are using.

I was able to avoid any crashes so far, I was even playing fine with the NewT2SFX mod. I'm just running regular old T2Fix, with Thief 2 Fixed disabled.

shop screen crashes are due to mods that change models - turn off those mods and you will be good to go.
