My guess was on avery aswell because of the drill bit outside, but if you say it like that I guess it´s not him :D And I couldn´t find anything at his place anyway.

Managed to finish the game but still had many secrets yet to be found and that gear key bug at the safety deposit vault happened to me too but when I inserted the last 2 gears when I returned the force field turned off even with the first two gears that were invisible.

If the force field turned off then there was no bug. If you had the bugged version, you would not have found the last two gears at all.
