I appear to be able to black jack the steward constantly and he just looks at me.If I stab him a few times he drops a key but shoud be dead .Am I missing something here ?:confused:

That confused me too. Leave him alone for now. Later, at least on Hard,
after you've put an incriminating object on his dresser, he should lead you through a locked door upstairs and do the main job at hand for you.
