I never liked it, something feels off - the movement, the visuals, but congrats to the author.
How long ago has been since you tried it? If it was an earlier version then things could certainly feel quite different, but as for the movement, I personally tweaked the movement of the character by running Thief 2 side by side with TDM and adjusting it until it was as close as I could get it. The visuals are clearly going to be a bit different, but that is going to vary from mission to mission based on authors artistic preferences. There have been a number of improvements to the visuals recently, including experimental soft shadow edges. That being said, TDM was never meant to be a carbon copy of Thief, but can't please everyone.

Right, I should give it a try again, the last time was I think around 5 years ago.

Actually Thief 2 movement didn't age well, with all the swaying and sliding on surfaces. TDM movement is more modern, feels more fluid and transparent.

Nice mission! Among other things I liked the memorial to Sir Taffsalot, and the fact that the villain wakes up if you happened to have knocked them out before discovering their real identity.

Not trying rain on this thread or anything, but please explain this. This doesn't sound like the Thief that I'm playing.

Thief movement has both the head bobbing and this uncontrollable momentum you get while running, that's especially apparent when running down sloped surfaces. It feels more like drunk ballerina than anything else. And even with new mantle the movement isn't exactly fluid. And while TDM engine has its flaws, the movement is much more snappy. If you play modern games on regular basis, you know the difference. Which is not at all surprising, as Thief is pretty old now. As TDM is based on engine from more recent era, it has more modern feel to its controls. Maybe it's not Dishonored, but it feels good :)
