TDM's engine is barely more modern than Dark, and is 14 years old now. Also, new_mantle does nothing to the mantling motion, it only makes it possible to mantle into larger openings AFAIK. And finally, I have no idea what you're going on about with regards to "uncontrollable momentum" and feeling like a "drunk ballerina". Let's just all agree that some of us prefer the player movement in Dark and some prefer it in TDM and there's nothing wrong with that. :)

There's a 6-year gap between Thief and Doom 3 engine the TDM is based on, it was already a huge technology gap back then - and the engine is still being developed by TDM team. Jumping and mantling code was added by the team as well, IIRC, and IMO it gives better control over your character. I prototyped a small parkour mission for TDM, something that wouldn't work in Thief engine. Not sure if anyone would like to play that, but still :)

Thief movement has both the head bobbing and this uncontrollable momentum you get while running, that's especially apparent when running down sloped surfaces.
Personally, I like bunnyhopping. TDM is exceedingly restrictive in that regard. Realistic movement would allow for at least some bunnyhopping, which TDM lacks. Mind you, I love TDM, but this is one of the few areas for improvement I'm seeing

If you want to argue about this stupid nonsense, could you do it outside grayman's release thread?

I played it twice and I suppose that the disguise that Deacon wears must be randomly generated each time since he was an engineer the first time and a beggar the second, playing on the same difficulty level both times. I was hoping more would be done in that regard too in terms of finding him to kill him but it seems when you discover everything about him including his disguise, all of the guards on the map are killed off and he just wanders a certain pattern between areas while being loud while singing so you can find him.
Still, nice mazelike town with a lot of detail. I enjoyed the mission quite a lot.

Right, I should give it a try again, the last time was I think around 5 years ago.
That's a looooooooooong time ago, especially for a project like TDM that has been constantly updated and improved with pretty major updates at least once a year. Mappers are also far more accustomed to mapping with the tools now.

Quite.
If you guys still want to discuss, I'm more than happy to move your posts to a new thread.
