Yeah your system doesn't seem to be quite fast enough to record and encode effectively. I don't see any difference in-game between normal playing and recording. I don't see a drop in fps at all I mean. I tried Bandicam and a few other free programs first, but nothing is as reliable as Fraps. Yes the outputs are huge but I can deal with it with my current setup. Problem is the other software (Bandicam + others) usually record and encode on the fly, which puts more pressure on your system. Fraps doesn't. Anyway I can highly recommend my setup. It is reliable and provides great results.
Good luck :D

It's interesting to see a lot of people using Fraps. I'm actually using a program that I haven't seen listed almost anywhere: OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) - it's meant to be used for live streaming but it's able to record on HDD as well and does so pretty well, at least for 720p (1080p is too much for my current computer as well).
Regarding Klatremus's video, the quality truly is unprecedented, as are your ghosting skills :) I've been tempted to keep watching but made myself stop after a little bit because I haven't played Calendra's Cistern or Legacy yet. Speaking of ghosting, let me know when you get around to RoO supreme ghost! I've managed to get through the first mission now and the mere idea of ghosting it is unfathomable to me :P

What I like about Fraps is that is gives you the raw file to work with. Yes it is big, but if you have a HD to deal with it you can subsequently encode the video to your exact preference. YouTube desires specific file formats, so if you want to reduce their encoding habits to the maximum then you'd want to specify codecs, bitrate, fps and so forth.
RoO is on my list, but pretty far down I'm afraid. Check out my 'future projects' list on my YouTube channel page. It comes after all those. However, I might do the first mission as a break somewhere in the middle. I know many fans would like to see it being done. Problem is, I don't know much about those missions, so they might not lend themselves to ghosting at all. For example, some missions force you to deal damage, without it being specified in the objectives. Other times, inevitable traps cause multiple AIs to be alerted, alarms go off, etc. A good example is Events in Highrock, one of the very best fan missions for Thief 1 in my opinion. I've played it many times but it just isn't ghost friendly enough to make a video of. RoO might just end up in the same category. Could you give me some input on whether it would be? Without giving away too much please...:)

Thanks again. You are quite right. I am thinking, though, that disk I/O could also affect performance. With a faster CPU and CUDA acceleration, maybe the encoding during capture will not be an issue. I will check it when I get a new computer in a month or so. I'm thinking about Intel i7-4770K and Nvidia GTX 760 2GB.
Sorry to hijack your thread. Your videos are great, nice and crisp.

It might very well be the case that it's not ghosting-friendly, others might be able to give you a more accurate estimate. I can think of some instances where you need to deal damage to be able to continue but maybe if 99% of the mission can (theoretically :D) be ghosted, it could be considered an exception? Not sure how far the rules of Supreme Ghost can be bent. It also depends on whether you plan on going for 100% loot.

The mission must be ghosted 100% to be considered ghosted. There are no exceptions for "almost." It may be interesting to play, anyway. Maybe a clever player could figure out a work-around. In fact, "ghosting friendly" missions are often too easy.

Yeah I didn't mean 'not ghost-friendly' but more 'ghost-hostile'. I appreciate challenging ghost missions more than super easy ones. Even if you can't ghost them but have to take a bust or two it might be more fun than a ghost breeze. As far as loot goes, I play the way I show in my videos, where I skip loot that requires busts to take, unless I can't reach the loot requirement (which isn't the case in but a handful of missions). But as far as
bending the Supreme rules, that's a no no. Either you bust or you don't, there's no in between. 99% success is 100% failure. :p
The only time exceptions might be made is if you encounter a situation that isn't mentioned in the Supreme rules, but still seems like a bust.

That's what I was thinking too. Even though it might not be Supreme or regular ghostable, it could still be interesting and very fun to try to minimize the amount of busts. That's why I still wanted to enter Flat2A in A Meeting With Basso despite the initial Supreme bust, even though there was only a little bit of "unnecessary" loot in there.

I watched it and found it fun to see how others handle the situations different than I do. Good work.

My latest video is up:
(
http://youtu.be/VEYJkNV9DC0) Calendra's Legacy, Act 2: Midnight In Murkbell
Didn't manage to Supreme Ghost. Had to take two busts in the end, but did a Perfect Thief run without a single first alert. Couldn't upload with the same quality as before for some reason; "only" a bitrate of 6,500kbps in 1080p, instead of the normal 8,000. Still looks all right. Not too happy with the commentary this time. Ended up recording it over several afternoons. Was a bit tired after work. Anyways, here it is.
Enjoy! :D

Calendra's Legacy, Act 3 is uploading now. Will probably be ready sometime tomorrow. :D
